As far as season finales go, this felt like just another episode. Instead of getting a few loose ends tied up, it just presented us with more loose ends.
Helen apparently run away from John (not sure why), the statue of Liberty got blown up and kids celebrated by burning down cars and libraries and beating up people (also not sure why), the Fuhrer got shot on the wrong side of the chest and didn't die yet (still, I got so much satisfaction out of it), Julianna can seemingly travel now (and according to Hawthorne, apparently she'll only be able to go to a world where the other Julianna is dead, if I understood him correctly) and I think the film where the Allies won the war is now being mass produced, or something with Frank's logo on it.
IMO this was the weakest season yet, cause the main plot now is "Nazis are a-holes and want to conquer the whole multiverse". The moment they went hardcore sci-fi, things started going downhill.
I just hope Julianna travels to some world where Joe is alive and manages to bring him back with her. I still don't get what the point of killing him even was.
In the words of the great George Taylor:
YOU MANIACS! YOU BLEW IT UP! OH, DAMN YOU! GODDAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!
Smith is front and center in this one and has a rough go of it, but it's hard to feel sorry for him when he's constantly reminding us that he's a jackhat. Maybe not entirely by choice, but still a jackhat. Juliana calls him out over his treatment of Thomas and he knows that she's right. Abendsen calls him out as a traitor to his former military team and former country and he knows that he's right. His wife calls him out as a bad husband and father and he knows that she's right. And then she leaves him. Even Himmler calls him out for losing control of his family and he knows that he's right, too. And as if all of that isn't enough, he has to play a role in the destruction of Lady Liberty and he knows that that's wrong. And he loses Juliana while she's in his custody. He's basically ready for one of those old "Want to get away?" ads from Southwest Airlines. It'll be interesting to see how far he gets into season four without cracking.
S1 & S2 were masterpieces this season is also very good but there were more boring scenes particularly the Thelma & Nicole scenes. Those scenes felt like they'd been phoned in which is a shame because that could have potentially been good, perhaps the problem being that neither became especially related to the main plot after Joe's death and Smith blackmailing Thelma out of the way after that the characters probably should have been written out or had less scenes. The Kido and the hostess relationship would have been more interesting to watch develop but ah well.
Very good Season Finale after a mediocre third season.
First off, I think that the final two scenes of this episode should have been ordered the opposite way around. It would have been much better if the season had ended with Juliana traveling and not with a truck driving off.
As far as this season goes, I thought it was certainly a great season of television, but it didn't live up to season 2. I'd put this season more on par with season 1, although I'd say season 1 was more consistent whereas this season had more ups and downs.
As much as I enjoyed Bella Heathcote in the last season, I felt as though most of her plot this season was just filler, and I wasn't really interested in any of it. She was much better last season when she was interacting with Joe.
It was disappointing to see Joe killed off so early, although I thought the death was done very well, and I am 100% sure that we will see him again with Julianna, especially now that she has travelled to another world.
It was nice to see Frank alive again, just so that we could eventually get that reunion with Julianna, but I thought that although his death was done well this season, the impact was reduced because I as a viewer had already 'mourned' his death from before, so I didn't really care this time around. I've also never been a big fan of the character and always found him pretty boring, so there's that.
I think the biggest issue this season has is with how there's a lot of plot that revolves around characters that were more on the side in previous seasons. I really don't care about Ed or Childan very much, and I find Ed especially to be a very boring on-screen character.
I have mixed feelings on how the show has introduced these new sci-fi elements. On the one hand, I love how different this season was and how they are doubling down on the initial concept of the show, but on the other hand, it almost feels like they've started diving into this too late. There have already been 2 excellent seasons of television that can best be described as an alternative realistic history drama programme, but suddenly the whole thing seems to have just been up-ended and changed into this crazy sci-fi drama. I understand that this was the plan all along for the show, but I do think there's an issue with how long they've taken to actually introduce a lot of these elements. I could see a lot of people being turned off from the show this season.
Pros
Pacing
John Smith
Tagomi
Sci-fi elements
Cons
Excessive focus on side characters
Sci-fi elements
If only all the episodes of season 3 had been like this last one!
John Smith was the saviour of an otherwise ok-but-mediocre season
I really enjoyed this season and I liked the finale. I felt that we would get something that would be much predicatable/cliche yet it felt natural. I love how everything progressed these 2 seasons and where the show is heading.
this was a great episode oml, it was nice finally seeing the failed chicken farmer get shot again
Good ending to a bad season...

A great season finale - again!
Normally I hate cliffhangerishy finales, but in this case Season 4 is already greenlit.
It is amazing how natural the progression feels, i am always amazed how fast the hour-long episodes seem to be over.
