wow. this show always finds a way to get to me. I didn't really care for the death scene as it happened, but the send-off was true to the show origins, and the loss felt truly genuine. bravo to the writers, and goodnight to a tortured soul finally at rest
Just beautiful.
Didn't expect that move, and I totally appreciate how it went down.
As the showrunners put it: "There is no such thing as a Minor Mending. The smallest action can ripple out in powerful ways we may never fully know."
Also, well, if you've come here simply to be angry that your ship has sunk... You have my empathy for your sadness, but try turning that into something more positive, 'mkay?
Just have to say, when an episode actually makes me tear up they have done a great job with writing and acting. Good times.
It was an emotional episode. I must say I was actually shocked by the death of my favorite character Quentin, I didn't see it coming at all, but apparently, the writers were planning on doing it from the beginning, and to be honest, they had a good reason, as one of the writers said on an article on Vulture: 'It’s very important to us to explore the genuine emotions that come out of death. One of the things that this show is really about, one of the fundamental themes of the book, is that the characters discover magic is real, but it doesn’t make them happy.'
I'm not happy about Quentin's death, but at the same time I can see that his story had to end here, he had what he wanted from the beginning: A death that has a meaning. He died to save his friends, nothing can beat that.
Wow, what an episode (and season, and run so far). To be fair, things did seem a bit rushed when it came to Everett (and obviously wasted) and the other realm, but the lead up was so much more meaningful.
As I was watching, I knew that they'd do something to fuck up Qualice, but I didn't think like this. Then when they had the talk about the seam, I thought it would be a reverse-niffin thing and then Alice would have to do a fetch quest to bring Q back. But, I have to admit I did not see that happening the way it did. It was all so beautiful and heartbreaking and I'm tearing up writing this.
Then to think back to his big monologue to the flower in the last episode (I honestly want to find and watch that again)... And how he was dealing with his father's death, and how there was a mini-reflection of the Quelliot episode (the best of the series, imo). And of course the campfire. Jeez guys! It's just too much.
It's easy to shit on Q (I suppose? Honestly I am more of a non-fan of Josh), but to me, he was the honest heart of the show and reflective of a person struggling with their identity and worth in the world, and he really spoke to me. I am very happy that The Magicians is coming back for another season, but I hope it will be their last. I love all of the characters, but also how ALL of them interact with each other. I know why they won't bring another Q back (like Penny-23) as it would be bad story-telling, but I can't really see how they continue to tell this type of story without Jason Ralph.
I really love this show. I don't really ever post about many other ones besides Game of Thrones, but this one really connects with me for whatever reason.
Sorry for the long post. tl;dr- I'm sad he's gone, great ep, want the next season to be the last.
I have been on trakt a long time but this is my first time commenting, anyway this was a fantastic ending.
Q got a great finale I think and he can finally rest in peace.
This show continues to spoil us. And this time, it also gave Q the sort of quality and meaningful -- and risky -- sendoff that any actor would hope to have for a character. Good stuff.
That was the saddest rendition of 'Take On Me' I've ever heard.
Beautiful symbolism comparing with the music video as well. Hopefully that ending will come to pass here?
I'm fine in Ross Geller's voice
Everything hurts.
WOW!! What a curve ball, from out of nowhere. Man, this show is never afraid of taking chances. This one may pay off big. I don’t think that I’ve cried so hard, for any season finale, or for any show for that matter. Q will be missed, but I’m sure they will find a way to fit him in next season. Jason is an amazing actor, and a really BIG part of this show.
It's a bitch move but it's a good move to make.
Bastards! * cries in a corner *
Why? Why did they have to put Quentin and Alice back together only to break them up again? And forever, this time... I can't believe Quentin is dead. He's truly gone from the show, according to both the actor and the show runners. This will be a huge loss for The Magicians, but it will be interesting to see the shift in the dynamics between the characters, now that a new void has been created between them. The Library wanting Alice to run things there and the clusterfuck that seems to have happened in Fillory 300 years ago will most certainly provide for a very exciting new season.
Nonetheless, in the end, I'm heartbroken. It was an excellent season finale, but it was also a heartbreaking goodbye. I cried like a little girl. I'm happy that the show is returning for a fifth season, but knowing Quentin will no longer be a part of it feels heavy on my heart. And, yeah, I know, this is just a show. But it's a favourite of mine.
The bonfire scene was done so beautifully! The only thing that would have made it better was a Quentin and Eliot reunion scene
"Did I do something brave to save my friends, or did I finally kill myself?"
"Ok I see we are gonna need the deluxe package"

"Appreciate the level of sincere grief dude"
This IS THE MOST beautiful ending of a series EVER <3

What a way to end Q's story!! I became too emotional at the end. :pensive::cry:
They could describe Quentin's final scene in the mirror world as "Alice sees a lot of beautiful sparkles." :D
But in all seriousness: This was a very nice and beautiful ending. For me this would also be a fine conclusion for this show but I definitely don't mind that there's a fifth season (let's just hope they won't mess things up and the end will also be so beautiful).
At first I didn't really care about Quentin's death because we already know this isn't the end for him, that he'll meet Penny, and IMO Alice should be ok (not ideal but hey, it's not like she never messed up). But when I saw Elliot it hit me and I became quite sad. He didn't even get to say goodbye - that must really suck... :o At least he still has Margo though and already got to tell Quentin how he really feels about him. Then I got a little bit annoyed that they burned all of his things instead of keeping them as a memory - I got the gesture though. But then Julia cried and I got really sad again. Luckily it ended beautifully. Julia finally got her magic back and the futures for the others looked bright as well.
All in all, the fire, songs, Penny's narration, and Quentin's happiness were just so heartwarming and beautiful :) <3
Edit: And the many magicians working together was so awesome as well!
So I guess Q really is dead then and not coming back ever?
I'm so angry right now. The episode was so rushed and everything that happened this whole season was for nothing.
Beautiful, heartbreaking and magical. It legit had me crying.
The show's gonna have a tough time outdoing this season.
I look forward to seeing what the writers come up with.

This was a fantastic episode. A much more satisfying ending than last year. I can see being upset by Quentin but not at the overall episode.
I didn't even mind they snuck in an extra group song.
