It's 1940, and the Pevensie children, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, have been sent to stay in the countryside where they will be safe, away from the war. Their home for the duration is a huge rambling mansion that the children cannot resist to explore, during which Lucy stumbles across an old wardrobe which hides a magical secret.

After being given a task by the White Witch, Edmund finds Lucy again, and they return to their own world. Edmund lies to Peter and Susan, saying that Narnia was a game he and Lucy were playing. Will Lucy's story ever be believed, and will the children all finally get into Narnia?

Peter, Susan, Lucy and Edmund venture on to try and rescue Mr. Tumnus and meet the beavers who have some good news for them. Meanwhile, Edmund has mixed loyalties — he just doesn't believe that the White Witch is as bad as the animals say she is.

The beavers and the children are preparing for their journey to the Stone Table. The White Witch orders Maugrim to go to the beavers' house to kill everyone there, but when they arrive, they find the house empty. Along their journey, Peter, Susan and Lucy unexpectedly meet Father Christmas, who presents the children with gifts. As they continue the journey, the snow around them melts, making way for spring.

Arriving at the Stone Table, the children are welcomed warmly by Aslan. However, Maugrim appears soon afterwards and terrifies the crowd, only to be slain by Peter. Knowing that the White Witch is nearby, Aslan sends his creatures to rescue Edmund. Later, the White Witch herself arrives at the Stone Table, demanding that Edmund be given to her, as all traitors in Narnia belong to her.

Susan and Lucy spend the night at the Stone Table with Aslan's body. At dawn, the Stone Table cracks in half, and Aslan comes back to life. He explains there is a deeper magic that states, "If a willing victim who has committed no treachery is killed in a traitor's stead, the Stone Table will crack, and death itself will be denied." The two girls jump on Aslan's back and fly to the White Witch's house, where Aslan's restores all the Witch's victims — including Tumnus — back to life from their stone forms.
