I know the previous episode is the flashy one that everyone's talking about, but this is the one that really blew me away. I know Richie will blow up and do something stupid again, but for one episode he figured it out, found a purpose, and found peace. I'm really glad the show let him have that.
The character building on this show is unreal.
I definitely want to be Carmy when in reality, I'm Richie and this episode helped me realize that. I don't think I would've said Richie was my favorite character before but I feel like this episode showed me that he is. I went through all the emotions with him on this one. He needs to be protected at all costs.
„Every Second Counts“
So great how the meaning of these words changed over the course of the episode
In Marcus’ episode Will Poulter’s character said he thought he was the best until he started working with someone at some restaurant who was way better than him, and so kept as close to him as he could in order to learn from him. This was probably Carmy, having seen that framed photo of him and Will Poulter’s character on this restaurant Richie’s at
Olivia Colman went hard, but Richie singing Taylor Swift in his car went even harder. The whole procedure, the ups and downs, really just a beautiful episode.
I find it unrealistic that he was able to buy THREE taylor swift tickets
Wow. Just… wow! Incredible episode and a perfect palate cleanser for the ultimate-Christmas-from-hell episode.
Oh wow. I am watching this episode whenever I'm in a slump.
"It's never too late to start over"
Richie, Richie, Richie
I absolutely adore how they've made me completely connect with this "jagoff"; watching him grow and develop and get knocked down and get back up again; I hope the rest of this season is kind to him as he finds his own purpose and reason for being. There were flickers during this episode, with the deep dish pizza (called it) and genuine delivery of service to the people of the restaurant. You can just see Richie opening himself up to the graft and reward of the service business. A lovely message to the whole episode too, about never being down and out, there is always an avenue for us all to take to get back up, dust ourselves off and start again. I actually got a little teary watching him hear the news from Tiff and when he's cruising to Taylor Swift. What a character.
"Every Second Counts"
maybe the best of the season. richie is such an enjoyable character, and him being a swiftie is really the cherry on top of it all.
bruh, this is a pure masterpiece! One of best episodes I have ever seen and just came in the right time bc I'm totally feeling depressed!
thank you for making this ep for real
meant a lot and definitely well made.
for me it is the best episode
best quote: micro basil. fk yes!
lmao
I have watched almost 5000 episodes of TV shows and web series. This easily makes it to my top 5 most fab episodes and happiest episode of all. I have watched the scene from when "Love story" starts playing 100 times already.
this is C̶i̶n̶e̶m̶a̶ T̶e̶l̶e̶v̶i̶s̶i̶o̶n̶ S̶t̶r̶e̶a̶m̶i̶n̶g̶ Art
Ok last episode was a masterpiece but mark this one down as my personal favorite so far this season. So full of heart, growth, and inspiration. This episode turned Ritchie into maybe my favorite character of the whole show. Absolutely loved to see his growth and this tender side of him.
Palate cleanse episode.
I like how this season all the episodes are focused on different characters.
Richie finding meaning and purpose in his life again was really well done. He didn't want to drink the Kool-Aid, but his realization that his people skills are actually valuable in a restaurant setting was just amazing to watch. It gave him structure. His character development has been great
There’s something really endearing about a 45-year-old man listening to Love Story by Taylor Swift. This show’s soundtrack budget must be astronomical.
Is it common/realistic that everyone would call everyone else “chef” in a restaurant? Not just the cooks, but including front of house staff?
This series is something else.
The change in tone (emotional and visual) with each episode, the character development, the seamless introduction of new actors and performances they deliver if only for few minutes, the pacing shift to match the emotional moments - plus the smaller choices like Richie dropping the act when in front of an authority figure he respects, having Olivia Colman of all people, with her own story, deliver those lines ... I watch a lot of stuff but I keep finding myself at a loss for words for what they pull off here. Chapeau, one of the best I've seen recently and not so recently
Scattered Thoughts:
Love Song (Ebon Moss-Bachrach's Version)
Someone fucking give Richie a hug. I've loved Ebon Moss-Bachrach's portrayal of him since s1 and his character has just been shat on so much as the restaurant moves in another direction and he feels increasingly out of place there and somebody needs to tell him he's worth something. He fucks up and his instincts/execution/ideas are sometimes bad(/very bad) but his heart has always been in the right place and to see him increasingly feel like a stranger in the place he was running (for years?) tears me up. I don't know where his storyline is going (loved him growing but still staying Richie throughout the ep) but his character is so isolated and doesn't seem to have friends/a network/support system outside of the restaurant and I so badly want someone to just tell him he's good enough and worthy and even if he didn't have the restaurant that he'd still have value and even if his ex is re-marrying he's still a good person idk why his storyline is getting to me so much. I wanted Carmy so badly to finish saying what he was saying to Richie on the phone and even if Chef Terry/Olivia Colman eventually said what Carmy was gonna, Richie needs to hear it directly from Carmy imo
Vague possibly-wrong potentially major overall Season 2 Spoiler: I think I spoiled the end of the show for me and God oh God have I been hoping I'm wrong but it definitely feels like they're setting it up over the past couple episodes and I truly truly hope I misinterpreted the meme I misinterpreted the meme allahu akbar
This show is a DRAMA not a comedy ! ! !
Expected a Bo Burnham cameo, got Olivia Colman instead and I'm okay with that
Casting truly is on point, loved all the restaurant worker guest stars
2 of the best scenes this season has been 2 people prepping and talking and shot really simply. When your dialogue is good and your actors can bring the words to life for a visual medium, just set the camera tf down and let them shine
"turns out i like standards"
Wonderfully done, I was anxious this whole episode thinking Ritchie was going to do a Ritchie.
It was ok, i felt little bit too much
Fish could win an Emmy, but Forks is a better episode, a journey off the chaos, not into it
Prior to this I couldn’t really have imagined me liking a Richie-centered episode since he is(/was) probably my least favorite character, but wow did they prove me wrong. He’s more relatable than you’d think. There was something in his conversation with Terry that really got to me.
What was this, a Mentos commercial or something? Some of the "B-roll" scenes of were downright cringey.
So you're trying to tell me that your average obnoxious Chicago bum can come in off the street and "stage" at the "best restaurant in the world"? While everyone gives him all the love and support that he needs to scrape himself off of rock bottom? For no fucking reason other than to advance the plot?
A bit corny and feelgood for my taste, but still very, very good. It looks like we may only get that season 1 frantic in the kitchen energy for a single episode (if that) this season. Very brave of the show to deconstruct a winning formula, but I do miss it.
Every second counts :raised_hands_tone1: that’s it.
richie getting his shit together montage to love story that's what i'm talking about!
What a great episode for Richie, complete with a Taylor Swift singalong! That needle drop couldn't have been cheap.
I’ve been sort of lukewarm so far this season but this episode is so, so good.
Masterful. It gave me the feels of an amazing Ted Lasso episode. chefs kiss
CUZ WE WERE BOTH YOUNG WHEN I FIRST SAW YOOOOOOU :notes:
Just as brilliant as 'Fishes', for totally different reasons. Focusing on hope, finding purpose from a low point, and the overall theme of "never too late to start over". Strangely, it really felt like a fitting followup to episode 6, both as a palate cleanser, and a shift towards a more optimistic tone. The writing of this show remains legitimately impressive. The way character development feels so organic and the people in it feel so flawed, and human, and real, is something very rarely seen in any form of media.
Fantastic episode! To finally see Ritchie smiling and happy just really made me happy! One of the best from the season.
funny how Richie went from being a character i considered an annoying asshole to basically my favorite in the entire show. he also got the most reflective and sweet episode. watching this was kind of cathartic in certain scenes, like the taylor swift one or the "every second counts" realization :') he seems to be such a nice person and dad underneath his abrasive surface
Beautiful episode, I thought it was even better than episode 6. I just hope Richie can keep this trajectory going. Stellar acting by Moss-Bachrach. I want to know what her dad wrote at the end of each diary entry too!
I cried with joy. Wow. Just wow.
I don't think that I have ever felt what this episode made me feel
This was hands down the best use of Taylor Swift’s Love Story on a redemption arc for one of my favorite characters of this brilliant show. Richie deserves to heal as much as every other character here!
its like this show keeps getting better and better???????
definitely made me like richie's character more
This is my favourite The Bear episode so far and I haven't even completed it yet. So happy to finally see Rich make it. Coming in with determination, taking things in his hands and doing them right is what we wanted to see, isn't it ? And to my happy surprise he is even singing Taylor Swift. I really hope he keeps this up.
and with that, for the first time in this 2 season journey, I now have some love for Richie…
Man I just want more of this episode!!
Wowww my favorite episode of this series. After the stressful Christmas family gatherings, this is such a hopeful and comforting ep. Never thought that I would shed some tears for a character like Richie. I wouldn't believe myself either if I was told while watching season 1. Olivia Colman gives excellent performance in just a few monologues. The Love story montage is also a fun ride.
I really did not expect to hear one of the Tangerine Dream's synth-heavy soundtrack from Thief (1981). Love how they used it there. it was top-notch. The editing and choice of music is otherworldly in this season!
Maybe Ritchie's finest moment, Moss-Bachrach get the opportunity to really sing. As others have said, a nice palette cleanser after the anxiety riddled masterpiece that was Fishes. Every second counts - it's easy to forget that.
Up there with one of the best episode of the show, best of the season so far!
That was a pretty powerful episode. Story of Hope and has somebody else said redemptions . It got me all in the feels at the end." Every second counts"
Richie becoming a Swiftie!? Never saw that one coming.
man, i love richie now. this was such a wholesome episode. smirk across my face. chef jess is such a badass. the love story bit with him in the car too!! the appearance from olivia coleman as chef terry was super cool too. these little celebrity appearances are so cool, and work out so well.
this episode broke my heart in the best way possible! i feel so much for richie and the show continues to surpass itself with every episodes
Quote from Spitting Image's Olivia Colman: "I'm on everything!"
Another superb episode, from the best TV series right now.
Wow. My favorite episode. This show just keeps getting better. I hope they make season 3.
Damn are there really restaurants like the one in this episode? I need to get out more often.
A return to form. _
episode is the bomb, chef

Might be my fav episode of the season so far. Full of hope and redemption.
