• What a Lego set!
  • Hoosiers: https://trakt.tv/movies/hoosiers-1986
  • Soviets, right? Valeriy Lobanovskyi, right? He was Ukrainian! Not all on his team were Russians. Many were Ukrainian really. That's terrible political nowadays...
  • Überhund? No. Doesn't exist in regular German. Better: Platzhirsch. Appreciate how lovely that sounds...
  • It flows into the rivers and into the sea.... it's funny cause it's true...only in England
  • I wonder if they sell real advertising space on their uniforms and stuff. Why have a real premiere league team when Nike pays you for wearing their kit in a TV show?

That's a very solid first episode. It's actually kind of promising after last mediocre season.

Oh yes, my feel good moment of the week is back!

Just as unapologetically sentimental and sweet as I remembered, I’m so so glad this show is back.

I love how kids in this show are portrayed as being their own people, with their own beliefs and personalities — and how they can be wiser than the adults in their life

Don't get me wrong, I love that show is sweet and has a lot of positive messages. At some point there has to be some character development. The first season was excellent but ever since then this show has devolved into the characters becoming caricatures of themselves. The dialog is so bad that it feels like someone had an AI bot watch the first season and then write future episodes. If you tell me which characters are in a scene I could tell you pretty much exactly how the interaction is going to go. Rinse, repeat.

Ted's press conference is interesting, since it feels to me like it's half genuine, half Ted knowing what part of his personality/gestures is going to push Ned's button and leaning into that.

Very impressive first episode. Lots of quality jokes and intrigue.

A great start with good humor, characters, and heartwarming moments, so right on par with the previous seasons. Really great writing and strong characters who just continue to get more depth. I'm excited to see what happens with all of these characters this season, but Ted and Nate grabbed my attention right away with where they're at this episode and am interested to see where both of them go this season. Despite being so unlikable right now, Nate is definitely one of the most compelling characters in the show.

How I missed that! Ted returning free hate with humility and joy, and making jokes about himself to take the haters' focus off the team and Rebecca

I absolutely didn't remember it being so fast talking and every third sentence being a contemporary reference (never felt it so strong of being the love child of Frighday Night Lights, Gilmore Girls and Community), but not gonna lie, it really brought out the core of it. The generational differences, the close personal connections, the need for constant validation, and how all of this needs to be navigated around safely while it is upheld what seems to be a pile of poop. Different lives, a lot of noise constantly used to recontextualize meaning, just trying to keep up and literally just trying in general. Solid start, it's been some time and I really missed this Lasso-way.

Ted Lasso is back and as great as ever! :fire:

After two great seasons of just pure entertainment on TV with no agenda, a refreshing change, this episode squeezed in two lines with a strong agenda, I hope it was in passing and we aren't going to see regular political commentary forced into yet another great show.

The narrative here is evenly divided between Ted, Rebecca, and Nathan. This is their story.
There are funny moments, and heartwarming moments, and plenty of set-up for the season ahead, cementing the rivalry between AFC Richmond and Rupert’s team.

9/10

A nice return to the characters, it feels like cuddling up with a comfy blanket. But I feel a sense of foreboding, maybe because there’s such an Anakin/Palpatine vibe going on between Nate and Rupert.

Ted is leadership goals and definitely on brand to match hate with love. Fuck Nate.

Echoing another comment on here though, the show is in danger of the characters becoming caricatures of themselves. Ted felt over the top with clichés.

The two kids in this episode were painful to watch though. Children to not act or speak like that. What the actual.

Glad that it's back to heal the world.

I love Ted Lasso. I feel good every time I watch an episode. Ted's character arc is, for the most part, a mater class on team building and leadership. In my opinion.
