They don't know what to do with Kim. Now he's a captain. He proves himself to be quite apt (with a little help from Seven and after being duped initially) but nobody of his Voyager crew mates experience his command skills first hand. Thus he'll stay an ensign working the night shift and a station somewhere in the dark background. Whether he's in the show or not doesn't make any difference. The whole episode ain't very consequential. I'll bet we'll never hear of that conflict (and the awesome cloaking technology) again.

The Icheb B-plot wasn't interesting either. Being a mirror of what Seven already experienced earlier during her social lessons isn't entertaining.

PS: B'Elanna mentioned she's married. That reminds me again how badly they told their proposal and wedding a few episodes back. There was just a 10 second scene or so confirming they are newlyweds and that was hardly enough time to get used to this simple fact.

Maybe the dullest episode of the series. This does absolutely nothing interesting with the concept - finally addressing why Harry Kim is still an ensign but forcing him to stay that way just because. The usually wonderful Ron Glass gives a very lifeless and uncharismatic performance.

Eh Harry Kim has been on the bridge for like 6 years and he doesn’t know how to be a captain? The thing he’s been in charge of during the nights for some time now… sometimes the episodes feel out of order but that’s not exclusive to voyager, there was those in deep space mind as well.

All in all it would be a good show of why breaking the prime directive is disasterly or even why it’s stupid.

Voyager should have asked for cloaking technology after the way Sisko used it in DS9 Voyager should get a chance. I’ve always thought them not having it is stupid and I’m glad they gave up the restriction in 3200.

Not all that great, but I loved Kim trying to convince Janeway.

Too bad Kim didn't exhibit much leadership. He is definitely a micromanager.

B'Elanna and Tom definitely want a threesome with Icheb.

Harry says, he’d be a lieutenant commander by now if not on Voyager, haha classic. What an ego. I could hear Janeway’s eyeballs rolling at that one. Harry has done some questionable things unbecoming of an officer and has been dressed down by school marm Janeway a few times. Just raising your voice to sound captainish doesn’t make you a captain.

This feels like a bit of an excuse to give Harry some command responsibility. He seems to be right about why he hasn't been promoted yet. The problem is, the moment he gets his command, he proofs why he wasn't. And to be blunt, the way the character is portrayed I doubt he will ever become a captain. He waltzes in with a pumped up chest and didn't even recognize, althought he should have known from his own experience, the errors he made. He needed Seven to explain it to him like you do to a child.

The Icheb story is a bit lame. They wanted to squeez some comedic moments out of it but it fell flat. In general I feel Icheb's dialogue mirrors those of Seven from a couple years back too closely.

I like that they finally showed that Voyager needed serious service work to be done. They have been shot at so many times you wonder how they kept it together. And the show never managed to do a good job in explaining it.

I didn't realize that being a pacifist meant you were completely ignorant of your surroundings.

Oh wait...
