Lwaxana Troi's final on-screen appearance. The stuff with Odo and Lwaxana is quite charming, helped no end by both actors drawing upon their character's histories and delivering something very heartfelt. I particularly enjoyed the hide-and-seek game they were playing in Odo's quarters. It's also nice that Lwaxana is fairly low-key here. A missed opportunity for some good comedy with Mr. Woof, though.

The Jake-and-the-alien-muse story is more problematic. When I watched DS9 as a teenager I identified a lot with Jake and his desire to be a writer, and I still really like that side of his character. This doesn't work too well, though, despite Meg Foster's delightfully creepy performance as Onaya. It's just not that compelling or executed with any real weight. I really want to know a bit more about the story Jake writes, too (Anslem, the same story from the episode 'The Visitor').

Damn why didn't they brought Deanna here!

Would've been great if Deanna made an appearance. When Lwaxana Troi was looking to sit down in Odo's quarters and he didn't have furniture, he should've changed into a chair.

The A-plot with Jake is stupid. I like that you see him again doing whatever writers do, but that muse milf story is bad. It runs in the family. Second sight was also extraordinarily bad. The genre of mystery-romances (of you'd call this a romance) is difficult. Look no further than TNG's worst episode Sub Rosa. The A-plot is an 4/10 max.

The B-plot with Lwxana is much better although it's also a story about love. Some hate her; some like her. But you must admit that she isn't annoyingly flamboyant or loquacious in this episode. Her interactions with Odo are actually quite sweet. There's even a feminist/ children's rights core to it. That's certainly not the main part of this story but it makes sense that a justice living man like Odo takes this issue very seriously. I like the wedding. Alien wedding ceremonies are often great in Star Trek. And Odo's speech is awesome.

PS: why didn't Worf do his job? He's the one who is supposed to deliver every baby in DS9.

Goodbye Lwxana ;-)

The ease with which these futuristic people are fooled or get a drop on never ceases to amaze me. I get it Jake is not a soldier but his father been in the fleet all his life... how is he this gullible? Perhaps he thought he was getting some nookie?
Still... simply ridiculous at how easily he was fooled and nearly killed.
