The reference to the South Park movie was hilarious. "You sound like a Jewish mother".
Shit, this was a funny episode!!! This is classic South Park to me. Having a statement about something today and backing it up with solid jokes. Maybe I just really love that Hootie song? But this episode killed me.
My Point of View is that Kyle doesn't like T&P anymore because they have victims that they're using the get laughs. I think its like that new wave of criticism of old shows - mostly Friends. they are getting ripped off now.
They made T&C to look so old just to show that difference in time - now Millennials are ripping off Friends, which was "so long ago" that they're old, but not really that long ago.
And take the actual FEAR of having inner-work relationship, which actually dominates modern work places -
That's definitely some hard core PC.
Loved it.
finally south park is becoming good like the old days
This was the best episode of the season
man this was something else

[7.7/10] A lot to like in this one. I enjoyed the notion of Kyle turning into his mom, replete with him basically reenacting the plot of Bigger, Longer, and Uncut. There’s also some interesting, if underdeveloped notions of people outgrowing things they used to like, feeling empathy for characters they didn’t always see clearly in shows they once enjoyed, which reflects a lot of folks returning to their childhood favorites. And the idea of him making a chance in his clothing and hair (replete with “Man in the Mirror”-esque backtrack) was a good gag.
Speaking of good gags, it’s shallow as hell, but I got a kick out of the jab at netflix for reviving old shows (something I actually appreciate!) THe notion of Terrance and Phillip as decrepit now, struggling to do the same old schtick is a fun commentary on the streaming service’s revivalist spirit.
I also got a kick out of the addition of Strong Woman, along with PC Principal’s crush on her. The gag of Hootie and the Blowfish music inexplicably coming out of PC Principal when he daydreams about his new crush, to the point that other people can hear it, is some well-done and funny magical realism. I’m not sure there’s a real perspective behind any of it, but him and Mackey freaking out about the idea of inter-office relationships, only to find themselves each nursing crushes on coworkers, is an amusing twist.
This is also a pretty dark episode. While playing the same Hootie and the Blowfish tunes, a montage where Garrison-as-Trump gets pissed off at Canadians and drops a nuclear bomb, replete with mushroom cloud and swirl of bodies, is a pretty serious place to take things. I don’t know how I feel about Kyle being primarily motivated by Heidi rejecting him, and I’ll admit I feel the show’s been a little incoherent on that point and a lot of the developments here, but there’s good elements and good comedy, so overall, this was a well-done ep.
