Sharp Objects: Season 1

1x03 Fix

i love that all that talk about bringing complex female characters to the forefront of the entertainment industry was not empty. conceptually, sharp objects revolves around violence, but it is not imposed on women by men as in big little lies or by a female assassin without considering the gender of her victims as in killing eve. it is imposed on women by women. it is this unique portrayal of generational female violence, both narratively and cinematographically, that makes the show so captivating. amy adams and patricia clarkson are simply magnificent. i love every shot. it's such a pity that we have to wait an entire week for a new episode.

I liked the flashback story about the girl in the clinic who kills herself. I find the dynamic between the main character and the detective is getting a bit repetitive - him always saying he won't tell her anything, her saying "okay I won't ask" and then immediately trying to drill him for more. The mother is starting to really annoy me - her insistence that Camille not be allowed to do a single aspect of her job under any circumstances is frustrating, and I don't relate to her enough to get past that. I like Camille's relationship with her sister, but her sister was a total jerk to her and I again don't feel like I have enough redeeming qualities to care about her despite that.

The welcome sign positionated on a shutting door. The sneaking out quietly so your mother won't notice. The condemnation from the older and the hope of saving the younger.

Amy Adams and Gillian Flynn are everything I need.

Sharp Objects is the definition of a slow-burn. If youre looking for a quick, murder mystery show, then Im afraid this aint for you. Its more a character study, but is surprisingly riveting. Its a story based on a Gillian Flynn novel (who also didGone Girl), who worked on the tv show as well. Amy Adams carries the show & deserves an emmy nomination. The ending is truly one of those WTF moments & will leave you reeling & thinking about for days afterward. One of 2018s best.

Editing is the best part of this series, so far.

All the fancy editing and camera angles can't hide the fact that so far this show super slow and boring. Seriously, how many scenes of Camille drinking, the dad listening to music, Camille driving through town, girls skating around town, Camille going up and down the stairs of her house, Camille looking in her dead sister's bedroom, endless distracting flashbacks - the list goes on and on - do we need?! Life is too short.

I see myself unable to see 2 chapters of the series followed by how depressing they are.

Camille is fucked up. There is no doubt about that. Getting undertones of being queer alongside that though? Either way, digging this complicated af female character. We don't get this enough and Adams is 100% the woman to tackle this.
