[7/10] Eh, this was fine. The show kind of acknowledged that its usual “this is the end of the season, we’ve been canceled” shtick is running thin. The catch is that setting up an Evel Kneivel-style canyon jump with The Nerd losing his clothes and crashing into a taco truck feels pretty desultory. They can’t all be winners, I suppose.
Unusually, I think my favorite sketch was the first one. JCVD getting rammed in the nuts by giraffes while split-surfing a pair of semis is just so absurd that it tickled my funny bone. The Stranger Things homage was over my head. The Japanese commercial bit was just weird.
The Nickelodeon-style “I don’t know” slimings mashed up with Taken was worth a chuckle. The Pinnochio skit had an unexpectedly decent point about the internet providing the modern day equivalent of the carnival of temptations for wayward boys, but the song was pretty meh. The same goes for the “Trump as Veruca Salt” musical number -- another solid idea with middling execution.
Overall, an OK conclusion to the season, which like all sketch shows, had its ups and downs.
