Going back to the 2nd Dimension was always gonna be prime opportunity for the series. Considering that dimension automatically lends itself to a different kind of story - one where the boys know Perry's secret identity, Candace isn't concerned about busting them, and a more nefarious Doofenshmirtz - the show would already be doing something unique. And the best thing Tales from the Resistance is how well it follows up on the events from the movie, bringing in elements from the show and giving new context to things from the movie in cool, new ways.

The focus on Candace here is the smartest thing they could have done as well. 2nd Dimension Candace is a completely different character from the mainline one, but one equally as three dimensional, and her arc here is one about letting go of being an adult and actually enjoy life for once. Her friendship with Isabella, and her concern for her brothers, help out in this and make her the shining star of this episode. Plus, Charlene gets probably her best moments ever here.
