Over the last months, I have perceived some kind of hype over this new show. However, the first episode of the final show left me a little bit worried. It certainly is entertaining, but also a little bit kitschy and formulaic. And although the old "I am alone and get bullied but someday somebody will get me and I will be someone special because fate and stuff" is still entertaining, the actors' performances are quite a mixed bag. Unfortunately, this is especially true for the main characters.

The first episode hits the ground running straight out of the books! What promises to be a faithful adaptation to the source material, considering Rick Riordan co-wrote the script, I can't wait to see how the rest of the series unfolds in this new TV format. Walker Scobell was perfectly chosen to play the titular role as Percy Jackson and I'm glad they stuck with the books for a younger actor. From set designs, script and action, I'm invested for the long run.

FINALLY! After all those years begging for another adaptation after the trainwreck that were this Fox movies... we got it! This time with Rick Riordan directly involved, we can already see that it's going to be faithful to the books. Finally we, the "Percystants" got what we wanted!

virginia and walker are just THAT mother/son duo because they pulled off sally and percy's dynamic so beautifully in that ≈40 min episode

did not know how much actually hearing "welcome to camp, percy jackson" would affect me. what an amazing premiere!!!

i can definitely see why the cast is the pride and joy of this series because every single actor is just INCREDIBLE. virginia kull is quite literally mother!

the title card is so so beautiful and i cannot wait for all the next episodes.

There are some good elements but the bad ones prevail too easily:

- pompous writing (basically everything the mother says, most of the guy in the wheelchair)
- excessive darkness to mask bad CGI in the whole fighting scene
- rushed intro to the characters, buildup for Percy and his bad time at school, as much as the friendship with Grover
- some of the acting. I liked Percy and Mr. Brunner but Grover and the mother went into overacting too often. Grover just from the cabin on (and gets excused cause, y'know.. kid), Sally in the whole episode (her voice seems to be breaking, the tears in the car). She had good moments with the non verbal communication but not much more...

I liked the general atmosphere and maybe in the new camp setting , things will progress differently and improve.
But seriously, the whole thing looks like one of those times when only the pilot gets ordered so they have to try and hook the viewer right off the bat, using 60% of the CGI budget, leaving 10% for the intermediary eps and 30% for the season finale.

Strong opening for the inheritor of the Percy Jackson curse.

I don't even know if there's a curse or anything but yeah solid solid work. Great adventure vibes and most importantly it manages to stand up on it's own distinct from the previous adaption. I do feel like Percy's mom is getting undersold but the two episode premiere give great confidence that this will be another successful adaption.

Right off the bat let me start saying that this is based on a children/teens book, the show is supposed to be for "early" teens. That being said the first episode is quick paced and it is as close to the source material as an adaptation could be (next level would be a show verbatim to the books). We have not seen that much from the cast, but as child actors we would do good in remembering how well the likes of Emma Watson, Robert Pattinson and others started off, but so far I liked the quick witter Percy and the nervous Grover.

Look promising than it movies version.

Feels very campy.Hope it gets better.

I haven't read the books, and I only watched parts of one of the earlier movies. I wanted to believe the hype, but this didn't draw me in at all.

As usual it's exactly the same story. They had a chance to change it, but they didn't.

Kinda slow but intrigued of what happening next

the main actor acts poorly and everything seems emotionless, let's see what the rest of the series will be like

This was a solid ilot. It's a very faithful adaptation of the start of the story. The standout for me was definitely Virginia Kull as Sally. She's one of my favourite characters from the series and an under discussed core of the franchise so I'm happy so much time was dedicated to building out that bond with percy. Honestly the end left me shedding a tear or two because of that wonderful performance by Kull.

The special effects were... a little muddy. Our big action scene was set at night during a rain storm so that didn't do much for clarity. and the grey wash over everything was a tad bland. I think this was most disappointing in the car where details like the minotaur wearing underwear just couldn't be seen. Hopefully future episodes won't feel as Volume-y

This episode overall was a solid start. Excited to seee where they go with it.

I enjoyed this a lot. Feels nice having a younger percy, i think it makes the stakes feel higher and the intensity feel more real? I really liked the grover stuff, he was a very fun character. So far im enjoying this more than the movies, something about him being a kid just feels more real. I really loved the graphics on the end credits, they were really pretty

maybe it's because i saw the original percy jackson movie in theaters (automatically makes things like 20% more entertaining) and love logan lerman (and never read the books) but i wasn't aware that adaptation was so disliked until reading up on this one. i hope fans of the book series get more out of this adaptation either way, it definitely sucks when a book you loved doesn't come to life on screen the way you imagined. this is cute, feels very YA and cheeky in the way that the new goosebumps adaptation did.

cannot believe the minotaur was running around in underwear though

A good start to the season. :thumbsup_tone1:

I don't know what's worse in this show, the acting, the writing, the special effects or the super typical story of the normal kid who is actually special.

loading replies

I think this first episode would've benefited from 10 more minutes to flesh out Percy's past in his schools and in Yancy, as well as the terrifying encounter with Mrs. Dobbs and his expulsion . But otherwise, I think it's a promising start, and it's already superior to the horrible movie...

Tad boring. I am sure it gets better.

Sally deserved so much more…
I love that she wanted to sacrifice herself for her son, but I can’t get over the fact that she basically died in vain:cry:
