So far, I like it. I still think Monarch is going the wrong way though. If Tim had said, "Look. I work for Monarch. You might have accidentally found something we lost. If you can return it, I can shake some money out of my bosses." Or, "I can answer a few questions you probably have about this." Or, "Do you want a new job?" Bloody anything would be better than the approach he took!
Side note on Tim, he looks distractingly like Alan Tudyk. Anyone else see that?
Hey, Matt Fraction! Long time Marvel writer, moving up into a business with better pay and recognition. How dare he? For shame. Etc.
I like Cate. Maybe it's because my first crush was Princess Leia, I've always liked somewhat spiky young women.
The retirement home is the Village from The Prisoner. Nice work.
Let's see. Keiko and Bill's son is Cate and Kentaro's dad. And he went into the family monster investigation business. He also went into the two family business. Going to be interesting to get the deal with that. Too much love in his pants, or something else? I'm not sure how two families could help, maybe by picking holiday spots in both nations spheres of influence? For that matter, he might not be dead after all. Now, whatever he had, Monarch wants back. Did he actually steal anything? Or was it data he collected on them? I expect this to be cleared up sometime in the next few weeks.
I really hope this family drama / teen spies stuff is over very soon, it's so boring...
dude trying to stealthily escape the Monarch agents really slammed his door close in the loudest way possible? smh fuckin' stupid
The parts in the past are interesting and tense, the parts in the present are boring and cliché. The first two episodes are kind of a mixed bag, but entertaining enough.
I'm glad Kurt Russell has that badass attitude, as always. I hope he'll bring some much needed pizzazz to the show (since they're still keeping the kaiju, I mean, the MUTO, out of the present time).
very good show. I hate that I can't binge watch
The Fighting Randas and Techno-bore May are now running from Monarch with information scuttled from the past life of Papa Randa, who they hate now or something. I imagine they will spend the whole series running for their lives with something they, or at least the self-absorbed Cate, was willing to walk away from several times depending on whether she was winning an argument or not.
The 1950's crew suffered the only monster action I can recall, when a "dragon" attacks an old ship they're in. Not sure what backstory there is to the dragon, but I'll leave that to the complete Toho/Monsterverse fanboys. There's also a moment where young Lee Shaw doesn't catch on that Keiko is actually a doctor because she is a woman. Nice that we have to have that emphasized to cover the sins of Hollywood's past. Hopefully, it will help them cope. Yeah, the fact that female scientists in '50s movies usually just ended up getting coffee for the boys is dumb but I don't know that I needed a then-and-now diff moment thrown in.
The only thing that ticks this one point higher than the first episode is that Kurt Russell is introduced in the last 3 minutes, and it immediately classes up the product.
I still don’t like these characters even the new one introduced this episode. The acting just seems so stiff. This def should have been the first episode or at least the part in the past. Can we have more Godzilla please :)
so first thoughts - this feels like it should have been the first episode. it's odd watching it and already knowing that the badass researcher dies (quite horribly, eaten by giant insect hatchlings) seven years after she meets our cryptozoologist friend (who we already know she falls in love with) and that her new army frenemy becomes their bestie. the drama of that portion of the episode would have been more impactful if we didn't know their future.
additionally, I don't think their dad is dead. he's definitely on some sort of mission... he either is high up in monarch or he is their number 1 enemy after the deaths of his parents (I'm assuming his dad also died in a monster-related incident).
I'm curious who Cate's mom is. voiceless people like that who keep getting brought up in vague ways tend to be quite important later on. it'd be great if she was high up in monarch, I guess we'll see
fantastic, absolutely satisfying to what we've been building up to.
totally a "grab the audience for the ride" episode.
definitely i can understand why they released 2 episodes, this one really convince everyone to stay on board. Although i would prefer to binge this show, i totally understand the weekly release so i can get more talk .
can't wait for episode 3
Episode 2 really? Ok just saying and I'm not a conspiracy person but the government want you to believe that they can find anyone at anytime.
There is no way they could have tied her to the files, they checked it on another person computer in Japan, she trying to get back to America right how did they even know what she looked like and where she would be? These writers?
Starting to pick up the pace nicely. :thumbsup_tone1:
I think they're going to need a fire-breathing flying turtle to deal with that strangely familiar monster

Really liked how they revisited the 2014 film from another ground angle, and I'm fine with the show releasing cool monsters at the end of every episode after the main past research/present conspiracy human storylines. Already knew from the casting beforehand, but l loved the transition of how they introduce Kurt Russell from Wyatt pic.
