Love, Death & Robots

Season 2

They played it too safe this time; there were no fucked up stories like Good Hunting, no funny ones like Sucker of Souls, no artistic ones like Zima Blue, and nothing I'd come back and re-watch like Sonnie's Edge.

A mediocre follow-up to a masterpiece

Some great stories, especially in terms of CGI (Automated Customer Service, Pop Squad, Snow in the Desert). But in terms of storyline, the rest is thinner than the first series. Pity.

I know it shouldn't after years of watching short films, but it always amazes me how much story can be told in just 15 minutes. Season 2 was just as good as Season 1 in my opinion. All the "episodes" were great, and while some felt like they had more impact than others, none of them were bad/boring in my opinion. I really enjoyed the variety of animation and the different styles of storytelling. My favourites this season would be "Automated Customer Service", "Ice" (especially for the animation), "Pop Squad", "All Through the House" and "The Drowned Giant". Definitely looking forward Season 3 of this great series in 2022.

The first season had a lot more to like in my opinion, only a couple episodes stood out this time, and they wouldn't have been in my personal top 4 from the first season.

A couple of episodes aside, It's a pity really;
Such Great Animation is wasted on Such Mediocre Stories.

Such an utter meh of a season... especially when compared to the first one. If this had been the first season I doubt I would have looked forward to more, to say nothing of recommending it as much as I did the first one. It may have to do with the fact that this had fewer episodes and thus less chances to wow me, but I dunno, calculate the percentages, first season, I had about 5 episodes I didn't care for that much, while this one had... still 5 episodes I couldn't give a damn about, and even the remaining 3 way weaker than the first season favorites.
Yeah, not a good look. All that anticipation for a letdown sadly.

All the episodes are in wrong order and the names are repeated in 1 instant

Compared to first part, the second is so bad. As one friend said, no content left - only form

How do you go from 18 episodes in Vol. 1 to 8 in Vol. 2?!?! Come on Netflix. This series has proven itself already. Give them more episodes.

definitely better than part 1 but still need more improvement

It might be a bit of an unpopular opinion (from what I gathered reading other reviews) but I preferred Season 2 to Season 1, though I do agree with the criticism that it had not many robots in it, for a show that has that specific feature in the title.

I overall enjoyed the individual stories a lot more or rather the season was shorter and this time the good outweighted the bad (or very mediocre) ones. Less episodes means less of a chancr to succeed, but also less of a chance to screw it up (Season 1 definitely had some standouts but overall more episodes I didn't enjoy or care for than the the opposite).

I do hope the show continues to focus on quality over quantity.

This season is bad. Where are the robots? It is a deal-breaking for me because I'm expecting that concept, love, death, and robots in every episode.

Unlike first season, the second one is boring, uninspiring and not interesting at all. Looks like the episodes are much shorter also... Pitty, the season one was great.

Damn really good animations but the stories was not as interesting as expected. 6/10

wow great netflix. thanks for nothing. season 2 is like a demo for upcoming studios who have great animator talents but have awful management.

Not that good but there where five decent episodes :)

My favorite ones:

  1. Pop Squad (that one was so good!)
  2. Life Hutch (I like space :D)
  3. The Drowned Giant (amazing graphics but also quite sad)
  4. Automated Customer Service (nothing new but fun - over the top though)
  5. Snow in the Desert (not quite sure anymore but I think it was (at least somewhat) good)

What a weak season. Most stories were rather boring without a real point. Too artsy. Disappointing after a rather good first season.

The second season is just pure dissapointment. How they can turn a great show with 18 not related episodes to a show with just 8 episodes some even shorter than 5 minutes. How is it possible to have a longer credits than the actual show run time?! It was a great dissapointmen after waiting for 2 years to get some exciting entertainment. Honestly, If I knew it would be this bad, I wouldn't even bother to wait and watch the second season.

[Netflix, S2] Less interesting than the first season, and smaller in number of short films, it gives the impression that the development of the stories has been neglected. And there is also a kind of stagnation in the technical level of animation, which in the case of short proposals like this could have been used to offer other higher levels. On the contrary, and with some exceptions, it gives the impression that the quality of the animation has not evolved much, or has not had the appropriate budget. The short film "Pop squad" is particularly noteworthy, which contains a deep reflection on the consequences of immortality.

Volume 2 is okay but not nearly as good as some of the episodes in Volume 1 and this volume is way too short.

I really only thought 3 episodes stood out: Automated Customer Service, Pop Squad, and All Through the House. Of those, All Through the House was the only truly unique episode in my opinion. It's also the only episode that compares to the better episodes of Volume 1. In fact, there were almost as many excellent episodes in Volume 1 (6) as there are in this entire volume (8). Sonnie's Edge, Sucker of Souls, Beyond the Aquila Rift, Good Hunting, Lucky 13, and the masterful Zima Blue all set a high bar for the series. In addition, a 105 min runtime (with credits) is way too short for an entire tv season today. I feel like the 227 min runtime of Volume 1 gave it some breathing room for the less stellar episodes. With such a short runtime for this volume, every episode had to be great and they simply are not.

That's not to say it isn't entertaining. It's certainly worth knocking out in a night but it isn't particularly memorable.

Season 1 had a lot more great episodes, however, it also had way more bad episodes. This season stuck to a more consistent quality imo.
