[7.1/10] Solid episode. Don Blankenship’s senate candidacy is a joke in and of itself (however dangerous that joke may be) so it didn’t require much work from the LWT writers’ room. And making fun of local news anchors is old hat for the show by now, so the returns were quickly diminishing there.
The main story, on Rudolph Giuliani being, charitably, something of a crank, was a little drive-by, as any biography dashed through in 7 minutes would be, but at least had a thesis that this isn’t new behavior from Giuliani, but rather who he’s consistently been. The treat of the night was finding out that Russell Crowe had his amusing revenge on John Oliver for buying his leather jock strap by donating the money to a Koala Chlamydia Ward named in his honor, and Oliver’s “we’re shutting the series down, nothing left to accomplish” reaction was perfect.
Overall, not the high point of the show, but perfectly good.
