9.5/10. A fine return to form. The commentary on Turkey's attempted coup and Voting Rights Laws was interesting, the takedown on tanning beds, and the ridiculous clips from the DNC were all quite entertaining. And the main story, which was mostly a fly-by of the events of the Democratic National Convention, had Oliver's withering but hilarious take at the peak of the host's strengths. It's also striking how legitimately angry he seemed about Trump minimizing the parents of an American Muslim soldier slain in combat, and his bed of nails metaphor was perfect. A tremendous mix of great humor, great insight, real feeling, and the way that LWT, at its best, crystallizes this all into one coherent whole.
