[6.8/10] Eh, perfectly okay finale. It’s an excuse to have a parade of the tertiary characters, but the usual insanity doesn't really click.
Some of the individual pieces are solid. I have to admit, I laughed the most at the really dumb jokes in this one. Liam McPoyle’s poor depth perception was so stupid but so hilarious as a recurring comic bit. And by the same token, I got a good laugh out of the rest of The Gang taking ideas like “squashing beefs” “wiping the slate clean” and “burying the hatchet” too literally. And Frank’s stand-off with his super over the heat, while they lock eyes and try to dance or eat crackers, was a hoot.
But on the whole, this was some standard but inspired IASIP madness, with that strong dose of self-referential and fourth-wall winking humor that the show’s leaned into more and more the longer it’s run. Seeing The Gang try to squash their beefs, only for things to spiral more and more out of control because they refuse to apologize for anything is a solid premise, but the show’s a little too plain with it, and while there’s good stuff here, the episode basically admits that things get too disjointed, and the food fight + dark ending feels like a cliché on top of a typical IASIP closing.
Overall, a mixed bag of finale that fits with a mixed bag of a season.
