[8.5/10] This episode has all the ingredients I like from a good episode of It’s Always Sunny: a good premise to give things direction, something for every member of The Gang to do, and absurd comic escalation. The contest to drink 70+ beers on a cross-country flight in order to top baseball player Wade Boggs’ legendary/infamous feat is exactly the kind of ridiculous thing you can imagine this motley crew trying to pull off, and it provides a canvas for each member of The Gang to ply their unique brand of insanity.
For Dee, that is getting plastered out of the get-go and being a drunken fool early and often. As I’ve said before, Kaitlin Olson is a very gifted physical comedian, and the way she plays the intoxication to the hilt -- fending off the stewardess with her foot, walking haphazardly over other customers, and above all lying face down on a carousel -- is outstanding. Plus, I love the payoff to her Wade Boggs/Boss Hogg confusion and her enthusiasm for making the ol’ Dukes of Hazzard antagonist proud.
Mac is great as “the commissioner” taking the entire thing too seriously as he is wont to do, and giving the show the opportunity to make no-to-subtle but nonetheless funny jabs at Major League Baseball and its recent history. Charlie’s also outstanding as someone who wants just wants to honor Wade Boggs in spirit (though also, hilariously and mistakenly, in memoriam) by pursuing the record for something approaching “the love of the game.” His hallcuination of the real Wade Boggs is a big laugh, and his subtitled, drunken idiot savant home run are both great buttons to put on the story.
Last but not least, I got a kick out of Dennis and Frank’s predatory competition. I’ve complained a bit about the characters getting a bit too caricatured as the show’s aged, and this one definitely veers hard into “Dennis as sociopath” territory, but the way he assesses his “prey” is done in a really humorous manner with the sort of comedy by specificity that makes it work beyond just creepy asides. And the fact that he ends up with, and then tries to escape the “desert trash” he was demeaning before is a nice place to end his story. At the same time, Frank’s lunacy is well done here. Between him drugging a random fratboy and “posting up” in the bathroom, it’s the kind of raw derangement and weirdness we’ve come to expect from the character (along with a return of “Dr. Mantis Toboggan”).
Overall, tons of fun here, and one of those wild episodes it feels like only IASIP could pull off in this particular, out there way.
The episode for the alcoholics out there. It's so perfect when you are at an intoxicated state.
Top notch episode, had me pishing myself with laughter.

Mantis Tobbogan, M.D. You want this young man to live? You're gonna have to give me some aspirin, a roll of duct tape, a bag of peanuts, and four beers.
