[8.6/10] Definitely one of the funniest episodes the show has done so far. It’s rare that we get the three guys as a trio, and they have such a great dynamic that the show can pretty much wind them up and let them go. The three of them trying to figure out where each fits into the looks/brains/muscle/wildcard blueprint from The A-Team, Scooby Doo, and most notably Ghostbusters adds a nice veneer to their usual buffoonery. And their attempting to hoard gas as an investment is the right kind of insane troll logic that these idiots would come up with.
Frank and Dee trying to frame and/or spy on Dee’s bio dad is a little less successful, but it still has that Arrested Development-esque clockwork quality of awful people being awful independently and everything dovetailing at the end into one glorious absurd conclusion. Frank trying to make seem Dee’s bio dad look like a terrorist, and then being the one to use waterboarding and run around in a van full of accelerant is a nice irony.
And maybe this speaks to my sense of humor, but I also loved the escalating absurdity of the poor random guy, mistaken for Dee’s bio dad, who has continually terrible things happen to his car and property thanks to the idiocy of the gang. It’s a sort of comic-existential “why me” strain of humor that always tickles my funny bone.
Overall, one of the best constructed and most laugh-worthy episodes the show’s done!
