[7.2/10] This one is a little all over the place, but I like where it lands. There’s an abiding theme of these dopes capturing a surface level understanding of concepts like inflation, predatory lending, and :money talk” in general, only to be duped when things inevitably get above their head. The show feels a little scattered in its attempt to dramatize that, but there’s some good humor in all of it.
It’s honestly the side stuff that really tickled me here. I love how Charlie is annoyed at seeming luxuries like having a working toilet or an entire extra bedroom that he keeps closed off. His exasperation at having to walk “a mile” to answer the door.Dee’s recurring move of gluing her hand to a wall/door/whatever and achieving nothing got a chuckle out of me. And the simple but hilarious way that Charlie munches down on a thirty year old ninja turtle pie that crumbs out of his mouth had me in stitches.
The whole thing reverting to the status quo when Charlie’s “crypto” thing turns out to be old pies is amusing. Mac’s steady devolution from eating expired nuts is gross, but the physical comedy of it works. Dennis taking the inflation thing too literally and starting an inflatable furniture rental business is worth a yuk, especially when a car annihilates his merchandise. And the endless cycle of “money talk” leading various people astray is amusing.
Overall, not a homerun to start the season, but a grab bag of entertaining economy-based material mixed with the usual nudnik charm of The Gang.
a pure genius twenty minutes.
"Like, how much nut do you guys blow through in a month?"
"A ton!"
The gang is back, baby!
Feels like we’re back to 2005. This is gold.
As good as any episode I've seen in recent memory. This was great.
Loved it! So funny and relevant
Clever and manipulative Charlie, dumbass Dennis and some gay jokes WE'RE SO BACK !!!!! This really felt like something from earlier seasons and I laughed a lot
I mention Charlie & Dennis specifically because I think in the past seasons they had gone a bit too far down the flanderization hole and turned them into an illiterate idiot and a smart(er) serial killer/rapist, which really bothered me because -despite his issues reading- Charlie used to be conniving enough to belong in the gang and while Dennis may have always been slightly more serious than the rest, he still had his silly moments beyond the murderous/rapey jokes. In this episode I felt some of these qualities back
Also, the body horror of Mac's nut allergy and Charlie gagging over those rotten pies at the end... it was all gross and wonderful
Can't watch this series in the UK :sob::sob: Think I have to wait 6 months until December.
I hate dennis's hair with a passion!
