Now that was horrifying ...loved it.

Rats! Ughh I hate rats... they were awesome! CGI wasn't as good as the first episode but still decent. The huge rat on the other hand looked perfect not sure but I think it was practical effects. The whole set was gorgeous and it felt claustrophobic. Some Supernatural throwbacks here in the beginning with David Hewlett and Julian Richings working together again. David Hewlett is good at doing comedy he was pretty funny. An improvement from the first episode and more fun!

You can’t go wrong with David Hewlett.

This episode is an improvement over the first episode. There's a dark sense of humor running throughout. The con-man grave digger Masson is played wonderfully by David Hewlett. If you have a fear of rats, you should avoid this. The giant rat, which appeared to be a great practical effect, reminded me of the vermin present in Stephen King's Graveyard Shift. I enjoyed the monster aspects of this story once again. The claustrophobic tunnels that Masson had to wriggle through was effective and it added to the no-escape scenario that I knew was going to occur. The rats exiting Masson's mouth was a well done gross-out, reminiscent of the final moment in the Creepshow (1982 movie) segment "They're Creeping Up On You". You know...the one with the cockroaches.

The second tale in Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities was far more enjoyable to me than the first. This time we follow Masson (David Hewlett), a grave robber who has a massive rat problem. As in "Lot 36", the protagonist needs money immediately because he is deeply in debt. The plot also starts out quite slowly, just like in the previous episode. This time, however, things really get going in the second half. Being a huge Stargate fan, I was thrilled to see Hewlett playing a more prominent role again. He is great as the lead. There are funny moments that he pulls off perfectly, and when the surrounding situation escalates more and more, you can feel Masson's increasing panic. The terrifying, claustrophobic, and creepy finale is fantastic. The creators have not skimped on practical effects. The monster design is also very good. For the first time in the series, there is a genuine horror atmosphere, though I strongly advise against watching if you have a rat phobia.

Significantly more fun than its predecessor. Short and sweet and does what it says on the tin: piles of rats, giant rats, corpse stealing rats, what more could you want?

ep2: gillermo, I adore your style, but this was just plain ass weird. I mean, the rats were weird and the basement skelly calling his precious was pure lotr-horror. this was hella crazy man

Vast improvement over the first episode, this is what I was expecting from this series. Darkly humorous with some genuine horror and some hidden meaning behind the window dressing. Great episode, hope they stick to this level of quality going forward.

Thank you, Jesus! I repent!

Both very scary (claustrophobia) and very funny, top-notch acting by David Hewlett.

Fantastic filming!
Story of a greedy bastard who didn’t know when to stop.
Loved the creature… is a rat or a sloggoth?
Fantastic terrors down in the black church. How is it that this idiot keeps fighting rats, but none of them have ever actually hurt him other than that one bite in the beginning, and a little slash?

Thanks, I hate it :persevere:

watched the black & white version

Really wanted to like it more but the premise was just kind of weak for me, I found hefty big boy rat adorable but otherwise uninteresting and angry corpse torso lad also didn't do it either.

This episode was less bad than the first (though not that difficult to achive), but I found this episide to be more disgusting rather than scary or anything.

This time there is not much story but the setting is very interesting (both timewise with the costumes and spacewise with a lot happening in underground galleries). The main character is a combination of annoying arrogance and touching stupidity. David Hewlett does a great job.
Maybe a bit less interesting than the first one but higher production value.

Better than just, "good," the director kept a purposeful balance between being tongue-in-cheek and scary... It was very good!

i really didn't like this episode and wasn't interested in the story it had to tell. creepy rats stealing dead bodies within seconds of them being buried is a bit too whimsical for me

I've watched a lot of bad things in my life but this one is taking the lead.

Great episode, Masson is a compelling character and I was very engaged with his struggles, but after everything he went through I was kinda disappointed with the ending. In the previous episode the main character's death felt like some kind of retribution, but repeating it looks like it was done for the sake of it, more so since his survival would feel more than earned. I hope this is not a recurring ending in all the episodes

A grave robber competes with rats for the booty. This one has a better direction and a more of a comedic touch. The zombie was a little too much, but considering the tone, why not.

[Netflix] There's a fascinating wrapper around an absolutely insubstantial, un-scary story. It is as if the anthology tried to pay homage to classic horror stories, but being as harmless as those watched over time. However, the aesthetic provided by Vincenzo Natali and the cinematography by Colin Hoult achieve a splendid effect, almost as if it were a comic. Too bad there isn't much substance to the plot.
