Well I got hooked on the original and found the original series weakenend towards later seasons (but still watched it till the end). Dexter is just one of those watches that is pretty unique concept wise. I'm finding the new series really quite watchable. Would it appeal if I hadn't already watched the original... I think so. Am I enjoying the new series... yep. I'll give it an 8 for fun. Not the best ever acting or production but I'm enjoying it. And that's ultimately all I want from tv. Your mileage may vary! EDIT: Upgraded my rating to a 9... loving this. If it carries on.. maybe a 10. EDIT: after episode 8 I'm hooked... Really enjoyable.. totally Dexter. Hope it doesn't end too soon! EDIT: Final episode : It's a 10 and upgraded as such. Loved it. Satisfied but left gagging for more at the same time... Please? :) If you liked the original Dexter... Dex out on this. Might start out a bit meh but this is way way way better than the tail end of the original Dexter after the trinity killer was dispatched with.
A show notorious for an awful ending comes back from the dead and has an even worse second ending.
An ending which wasn't earned at all:
- Dexter is acting sloppy and idiotic the whole time. This is a man who got away with hundreds of murders.
- Angela, who hasn't been able to solve a series of missing persons cases in her own town for 10+ years, solves the BHB case thanks to a series of plot contrivances, a google search and a freaking retcon (the M99/ketamine inconsistency, that made all of this possible). Her conversation with Batista in the final episode makes no sense either.
- The writing for Harrison is all over the place. After ten episodes I barely know who this kid is and what he wants. He keeps running away from conversations until the final couple of episodes and then we get barely 45 min of father-son bonding out of the whole season. His 180° turn in the next and final episode feels incredibly rushed.
- The show completely falls apart when Dexter kills Logan and he didn’t have to. All the evidence they had on Dexter was circumstantial at best, they had nothing solid to tie him to any of the murders. Any capable lawyer would have got him out of this. So his decision to attack a cop and prove himself a killer is the most illogical and out of character action he could have taken at the time. It was all downhill from there.
I am not upset Dexter died. His death could’ve happened in any number of fulfilling ways that honored the journey and the themes of humanity, morality, consequences, personal growth, development of empathy, justice/vengeance, the lasting effects of trauma the show explored in its' original run.
I’m upset they instead had his own son put him down like an animal while undermining years of character development to tell us he was just a psychopath incapable of feeling all along. Vilifying him entirely at the last second to force this outcome feels like weird moralistic bullshit punishing and mocking us for caring. Miss me with that bullshit.
Absolutely nailed it. Great stuff.
I wish Audrey was not in the show.
New Blood is being released as Dexter season 9
He's back. More mature and apparently more "in control" :-)
Loved to meet Jim and recounter Dexter.
I really liked how this first episode introduced us back with Dexter, hope it keeps the pace.
Welcome back Dexter Morgan :hearts: God I missed him so much! And Deb too omgawd I'M SO HYPED!!!!
So glad they didn't change the music either it felt so nostalgic.
This season is a dream come true. I have tears in my eyes of happiness.
This isn't actually happening. It will be a continuation of the original series. This will be season 9.
Don't be fooled by the myriad of shitty remakes, reimaginings, reboots, and revivals that became popular in the last few years. This show isn't that. It's an honest to god Dexter season. The characters are respected, the plot is interesting and it does feel like Dexter and not like a factory-made drone walking around wearing a skin suit of your beloved IP from years ago trying to hide the fact that it's hollow inside.
This really is Dexter.
the contrast between the original dexter and this is so stark. really makes your realise how downhill production and acting has gone.
dexter used to feel real. this just feels like a caricature.
It Was All Going Well. Untill, Logan Gets Snapped ugghh.. Expected Better Ending Plot..:pensive:
horrible horrible experience. wish they never made it. the ending was horrible should of left we'll enough alone
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Based on the last season of the original, I was expecting this to be pretty bad as well. The final episode feels a bit off but overall ‘New Blood’ is actually quite good!
It made me realise how much I’ve missed Dexter and I think it’s time to rewatch the whole show!
The ending completely ruined it...
I'm so f.. furious right now!
Super and gripping mystery series... love the narrative voice
I enjoyed the episode, really was looking forward to it. Although I missed classic Dexter stuff such as the music, they could use some Dexter themes in these episodes and also Deb should appear more times I think everybody enjoys her. Also a little more of Dexter's inner dialogue would be great, just like in the old times. Excited to see what comes next.
Great story telling. Probably as good as the first seasons of the original series.
I just personally didn't like the ending.
I actually never watched the original series. I had some grasp on who Dexter is, but hearing that the original last season, and especially the finale was awful, I didn't really want to watch it and be disappointed at the end. So Dexter: New Blood was a new venture into his mind and story for me, and I am completely hooked. The first season was interesting, chilling, never dull, and the best of all, I almost never knew what would happen next - which is, to be honest, a rarity, especially in American TV shows. Yes, some things might have been better, he became sloppier and sloppier, and Angela was perhaps too finding-a-needle-in-the-haystack, especially for a small-town cop, but I really enjoyed this series. I was hoping for a different ending and a continuation of the Dexter character , but I am okay with the ending it got. I am curious though if they are planning a second season.
This has been surprisingly decent given how abysmal the last couple seasons of the original became. Nothing groundbreaking but definitely entertaining and watchable. I do wish they'd retire Ghost Deb as it feels gimmicky and doesn't really add anything to the show.
My god it is SO bad.... it's an insult to the original run...
Its getting worse every episode... i mean Dexter got so stupid and boring lol how he speaks to his son and he to him...
An insult to the original...
More gore than the original, but a lot less in every other sense. Not totally awful but nothing like the early seasons of the original series. This run was made for people that need to be feed with a spoon already chewed food (don’t think, just swallow).
[Movistar+] Disappointing continuation of an essential show that perhaps needed a new look, but not in this sense. With an ending that seems predictable, there are only a few moments that revive the intensity and dark humor of its first seasons, but it gets carried away by characters of little relevance, who will hardly be part of the iconography of the series.
After almost a decade I can finally say... I love Dexter again! The way this show was handled is top notch! Def worth the watch for us who waited YEARS for closure!!!
Just finished the last episode.
The season started off kinda slow and I wasn't sure it would match the original Dexter show... but it did. It took about 4 episodes before normal service was resumed. Great finale!
10/10
Fun Fact : Dexter is based on books written by Jeff Lindsay, Dexter Morgan alias here is Jim Lindsay.
Not a bad show as a stand alone... however, it is pretty much ridiculous to reboot a dead show, where the shop shutters were pulled down... drag it through a slow-painful premise for the first 8 episodes and then rush the idea to a contrived finish line in the last 2 episodes...
Moral of the Story for future creators: Don't flog a dead horse, especially if you only want to bring it to life to kill it again...
Second viewing, previously unrated.
Wow, I did not expect that this would be this much of a trainwreck. A show notorious for its terrible ending doubles down with an even worse second ending. Let's start with the dead person Dexter's talking to this time around, Debra. We see a much different Debra, a Debra who apparently hates Dexter even going as far as calling him a monster and saying it's his fault she died. Directly contradicting the character in the main show. Then, we have Angela. A small town cop who couldn't solve missing person cases for over ten years solves the Bay Harbour Butcher case. She does so with a simple Google search. The search was "ketamine miami homicide" which somehow turned up BHB. Dexter had never used ketamine before so it's both a contrivance and a retconning, great job. The main show spent multiple seasons showing us that Dexter is not just some psychopath but is a human capable of love and more than just a cover life. Well, here he is a much different person. He's incredibly sloppy. A man who got away with hundreds of murders is worse at covering up than some small-town serial killer (Kurt Coldwell.) And, for some reason kills Logan (a cop) to escape his cell. Angela had only one piece of circumstantial evidence against him. Any decent lawyer would've gotten him out of that. Not to mention he could've just knocked him out. It ends with my beloved Dexter being gunned down like some animal by his own son. Absolutely terrible.
:heart:x7
This was a much better ending to the show than it's original ending. Glad they made it. It was also good to see our old friends Dexter & Deb again. Plus, they kind of set it up for a potential spin-off. Don't know if that's what they're planning or not.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
Finished this last night and stumped at the ending. We were not exposed much to Harrison's character and frankly would love to see bits showing him either following or not following his father's footsteps. The ending of Harrison killing Dexter seemed too sudden for me. It would be great to see a more derailed Dexter with Harrison who realized that one should never submit to his Dark Passenger. Oh well, still a good series to watch:thumbsup::thumbsup:
I can only talk for myself of course, but I thoroughly enjoyed this Dexter revival/miniseries. It's nothing as good as the phenomenal season four and probably is a tad short when compared to the seasons that precede the aforementioned, but it's without doubt much better than anything that followed The Trinity Killer.
It's an absolute joy to see Michael C. Hall back as Dexter, it's testament to his acting and the character that you genuinely love to watch him. Jennifer Carpenter's return as Debra is also terrific, as is the late reappearance of the awesome Batista (David Zayas) but also the newcomers to the series are enjoyable too. I got attached to the community of characters pretty much instantly, with the standouts being Jack Alcott, Julia Jones and Clancy Brown. I'd be up for seeing more, honestly.
I found the story to be rather engrossing, it got me tense and uncomfortable a fair few times. I see some say it's rushed, I won't quite say that but the last few episodes do feel a bit sped up - but I gained much entertainment from it and feel happy about the ending, which is much more satisfying than the original conclusion that we got. I see IMDb reviewers have the final episode as the serie's lowest ever, which is absolute rubbish in my opinion - borderline insulting, in fact.
I read there are rumours of a continuation of some sort. I'd be up for one no doubt, but I'd be pleased if it ended here too.
ok, so the first 1 thru 5 episodes we're a bore but after that it got good. ima huge poindexter fan lol, just wanted them to stay true to the original show they somewhat did. i gave it a 7 cause it took awhile for it to get interesting.
Absolutely superb to see Dexter back, so excited to watch this series. Getting into it, throughout it gave me flashbacks to the original which I absolutely loved. This was in my mind a superb way to conclude Dexter saga! A proper ending as the previous one was lacklustre, so thank you for producing this for all of us
For me an original og fan, this series was going so great till ep 9 but i think they fucked but the ending, as it did reverse of the code said.
[he killed an innocent] which deviated him from code but which dexter never would have done.
Dexter is not horror psycho thriller anymore like once it use to be. latest season feels like its made for kids. its more like a typical american teen school drama. bad acting and bad writing.
love it !! goosebumps all over
Ah its been so long. Welcome back Dexter Morgan.
Can't wait to see this train wreck.
Upd.
It wasn't a train wreck. It was a decent solid one-shot series. Especially comparatively to the original series. There was one pretty big forced "meet up" in order to connect two shows let just put it this way. But other than that the longer it went the more Dexter and an idea of him would clash with realistic reactions from normal human beings around him.
I always hoped that OG series would one day go there. It never actually did. This one delivered.
p.s. Do not click on replies unless you saw the show.
They need to find a way to bring Doakes back.
doorbell rings & Dexter opens the door
SURPRISE MOTHER F*CKER
Well the first 9 episodes was fine, the last episode was "rushed". Worst finale again. I don't understand why they started this New blood series, knowing they would kill dexter again. Doesn't make sense. I would like a face to face with Batista and Dexter in this series, but it was once again "rushed". I liked Angela character on par with "Jim", didn't like Harrison character. The first 9 episodes is 8/10, with this last episode i give 7/10.
I hope it will be good, trailer felt a bit off.
Loved this from start to 10 mins before the end but it had to happen yep
Crash course on how not to make full use of second chances.
Well it is a slightly better ending than the original series. But yes most of the plot holes others have mentioned are there.
Dexter the serial killers killer, doesn’t pickup on a pattern of several murders and disappearances. And the cop who dedicated her entire career to finding the missing suddenly figures out Dexter is a killer on almost nothing.
And no one in a town with the fastest gossip ever noticed that Kurt is the last person to see at least 2 of the missing.
Dexter being a little sloppy at first makes sense it been years, and it was a theme from the books that the dark passenger was what gave him his edge and precision.
But once he starts killing again he still misses Kurt, and his minion gets the drop on him after he just talked about Kurt having followers which sure they might give a message or even a beating. But Kurt’s junior killer just kind of appeared and he almost kills Dexter.
Deb started ok, but got super annoying.
Batista showing would have been great if he interacted with anyone else.
Blog girl while she moved the story along was also super annoying. They could have done anything else.
I get Dexter might want to avoid the old case but it was still a super cold case with a presumed suspect who was dead. And the Matt’s case was so flimsy that it would never have made it to court.
The kid is all over the place, but that is kinda how a troubled teen should act. But his flip to competence is bad writing.
And the ending is so forced, they should have something where Dexter and Harrison use Kurt’s murder room to get the cops off Dexter’s trail. But Harrison left some trace and Dexter has to break out trying to fix it and gets killed trying to save his son.
It makes up for the original show not giving him a real ending. But not a good death.
"i just hope they didn't bring back this show so they can kill Dexter" - That's what i thought when started watching it, guess originality it's really dead now a days.
Solid show, i was really happy to see Dexter again, but with a ending like this I wished they never had brought the show back.
Why? Just why? The original series was so good, but this was just mäh. It felt very forced and reminded me of the rather bad middle seasons of the original.
I didn't want him to dieeeeee :sob:
Showtime’s limited series Dexter: New Blood is an unnecessary epilogue that attempts to fix the widely criticized finale if the original series and give the character a better sendoff. After faking his death, Dexter has settled into a quiet life in a small-town in northern New York, but when his estranged son tracks him down looking for answers Dexter grows concerned than he has inherited his Dark Passenger. Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter return to reprise their roles (with Deb taking Henry’s place as the Dark Passenger), and are joined by Julia Jones, Jamie Chung, and Clancy Brown. The writers come up with a fairly good villain for Dexter to go up against, however, there are a number of inconsistences and plot holes; as certain parts of the show canon (like Astor and Cody) are ignored. Yet, while Dexter: New Blood has its problems, it succeeds in delivering a thrilling conclusion to the character’s journey…which somewhat makes up for Season 8.
Although a much better written ending to this series then the original series finale, I am still extremely disappointed by how they decided to wrap things up. It's again an easy way of finishing things. The aggressive death of the coach, though necessary for the built up towards Harrison his action, was very disappointing. From that moment I knew which way things were going. The evil Dexter again.
So the ending got predictable.
And yes, as expected then. No smart things. No redemption. No nothing. Just quick and easy, once again a highly unsettling ending. Now for good.... Disappointing
is this a sequel of dexter.
should i watch dexter before this series?
whaaat! more Dexter! why didn't I hear about this news before.
Edit (after the end):
I really enjoyed this! visually kept giving me visual novel vibes for some reason, maybe the ending/opening credits, the music or the cold cinematography. which is a fitting vibe since dexter is based on books. Again, great acting performance from C. Hall. considering how many years passed since I last watched dexter, and yet I was transported back immediately into it. they paced the story a bit oddly for sure. Would I have wanted things to play out differently, yes...did I still like it? yes
so, i never really got the chance to see Dexter, and i see to many shows to be able to binge it... i wonder if i should start this show?
Just so people know i think this is put on the wrong date. IT should be the next day and not this one.
I'm waiting for a long time for this season, I hope it includes new adventures and new great kills.

I loved the series, I didn't like how it ended. But this "continuation" of the tv serie, so far I'm enjoying this comeback.
