Shit the conversation with sam and miguel was deep. I welt really bad for him
I will never not find it funny how Cobra Kai has managed to take the worst film in the franchise and make the characters introduced there retroactively really cool and badass.
Oh yeah, what an episode! <3
My highlight is Carmen and Johnny having a baby :)
Those scenes were so funny, it's nice for the story, and it should create a bigger bond between Miguel and Robby (I really wonder how they'll react...).
And as always: Lots of great scenes, lines, etc.
It's interesting that Mike Barnes is back and I wonder if he'll join forces with Danial after what happened at the end (he could also blame Daniel for it though and wouldn't be entirely wrong - but he kinda owes Daniel so I think/hope that he'll go pretty much all in).
Miguel started the talk with Sam really well but unfortunately failed at the end. It was really a bit much at once from Sam but IMO he could've reacted much better - unfortunately he panicked out... He should've asked so many questions to better understand the situation, to hear Sam out / to understand her and their situation, etc. He still has that chance (in theory) but it's probably much more difficult now. And dropping that chain was just really stupid (he could've at least returned it to the store...) - hopefully Sam will at least find it so that it wasn't for nothing. Anyway, I really wonder if Miguel will manage to handle that situation.
Mary Mouser's story line is by far the least entertaining part of this series. I couldn't care less about this woman's hormones and how they affect her karate skills.....
This is why women shouldn't be in Cobra Kai
After a bit of an overly dramatic start to the season, this one brings us back to the perfect balance of goofiness and drama. I'm a little bummed that they left us hanging on Robbie and Miguel having to spend some time together, but Johnny getting overwhelmed by a pregnancy scare, taking it on with the hilarity of a "figuring this out his own special way" montage, is perfect, and I'm curious how that ultimate twist is going to drive his relationship with his two current sons. The text chat is delightful, with two sides of teenagers making the most of trying not to overblow a cryptic conversation, which balances out the darkness of Sam's thread. You could argue a sensory deprivation tank hallucination may be too much, but I thought it was nicely done as she finds herself ultimately fighting her own conflicted emotions and sense of purpose, and it makes sense that she has to put her relationship with Miguel to the side while she sorts this out for herself, even if his breakdown walking away from that conversation is so well played and heartbreaking. And the much advertised return of Mike Barnes! Daniel needs to learn to sneak better, and Chozen to stop breaking everyone and everything, but it's nice that Daniel continues to be confronted with absolute villains who were capable of growing and moving on with their lives. Though I'm very curious to see how that final cliffhanger is going to affect things. That's EXTREME.
5x03 - Playing With Fire: 7.2/10 (- Good, It Gets the Job Done)
Everyone is back home! A decent episode with a lot going on. The writers' treatment of Sam's character seems a little over the top. Johnny's growth as a character is always inspiring to watch, and I look forward to seeing how he continues to adapt to new challenges. Unfortunately for Miguel, he's heartbroken once again, and I really hope the writers don't bring back the Robby/Sam/Miguel love triangle. The dynamic between LaRusso and Chozen continues to be entertaining, and their skirmish at the furniture store was one of the highlights this episode. Unfortunately, three episodes in, the season still hasn't quite fired like the previous seasons. Although the focus has shifted back to the adults and the main storyline, there hasn't been anything remarkable so far. At least the closing scene suggests that things are about to improve moving forward.
