Black Mirror: Season 6

6x04 Mazey Day

When the new black mirror season comes 4 whole years after the previous, you can't come back with an episode like this one... the bar has been lowered

loading replies

Easily the worst of the season, such a shame because this season was on a roll too, did not care for this one whatsoever personally.

loading replies

This is a poorly written "filler" episode that shouldn't be in a Black Mirror season.

loading replies

Again, didn't feel like a Black Mirror episode at all. Could be "American Horror Stories" but not BM. What a letdown

loading replies

Probably the worst episode of Black Mirror, and definitely the worst season. It's like they are writing for a complete different show.

loading replies

should have seen it coming at supermassive black hole

loading replies

Not for epileptics my god

loading replies

Werewolves? In BLACK MIRROR?!?! Are you f*cking kidding me?!

loading replies

Worst episode of the whole series. Doesn't have anything in common with BM

loading replies

People are hating on this episode, and I get it. But if this were an episode of The Twilight Zone, I think it may have gotten more praise… because it wasn’t awful. And points for it going in a direction I didn’t expect AT ALL. But, for Black Mirror, it definitely missed the bar.

loading replies

In my opinion, the weakest episode from the sixth season. The episode didn't feel like "Black Mirror" at all.

loading replies

Clever twist. Didn’t see it coming.

loading replies

Weakest of this season. I get the allegory of "shooting" with a camera == "shooting" with a gun. But beyond that flimsy equivalency, this episode didn't have much meat on it.

loading replies

Epsiode was corny. Boring and didn't even feel like black mirror. I was waiting for something crazy to happen. It was wack but like the main actor, the jawn from Atlanta. So a 2

loading replies

What the fuck was that! Seriously, a werewolf!? The episode itself didn’t start solid, but that was the option it went with for the ending. So, I guess werewolves exist in this universe now. I’m just waiting on aliens and zombies next. The message is so on the nose and has been done to death already, to the point where it’s not saying anything new.

And what does this have to do with Black Mirror?

loading replies

what does this episode have to do with BM? Nothing at all.

loading replies

Of all episodes from every season, this was the worst of them all

This episode feels disjointed from the rest of Black Mirror. The characters are flat, storyline is unclear, and left me uncertain about its intended message or takeaway.

This episode specifically comes across as excessively violent, more attuned to Cabinet Of Curiosities and relabeled as Black Mirror.

loading replies

Far more Outer Limits, Tales from the Crypt, or Twilight Zone than Black Mirror, but if that doesn't bother you, this was a great episode. Seems like a lot of people writing comments have specific expectations for episodes. The werewolf transformation looked amazing.

loading replies

black mirror wasn't supposed to be fantasy...

loading replies

What a dumb episode. It will put you into an epileptic seizure.

loading replies

It started so strong - paparazzi culture, someone from within that broke free, celebrities shunning responsibility for their acts ... there was a lot of meat in that bone and the episode could have gone to incredible places. But the actual direction it went to feels really out of place, unsatisfying and unwarranted. It feels counter to what people usually expect when watching Black Mirror. It's not bad per se (even though I personally don't like it), but it just feels misplaced

loading replies

A crazy idea: Let s make the next episode about Vampires...

loading replies

how is this a black mirror episode...

loading replies

I thought season 6 couldn't be any worse than season 5.
I was SO damn wrong.

loading replies

such a weak episode and storyline

loading replies

i waited years for this bullshit

loading replies

OK, so we completely have given up on anything that was Black Mirror. What the fuck was that ? Come on, a werewolf ? At least I gotta say I didn't expect that ending at all.

That would have been a kinda ok Tales from the Crypt. The idea is pretty cool. But that still was a bit slow.

Bo must be an amazing shooter. The cop shot directly several times with no effect, but she did it, while grabbing the gun from the floor, shooting at a target moving at high speed, and instantly neutralized it in one shot. Even deviating it from her while it was in the middle of a jump!

loading replies

What the heck did I just watch? :( 1/10

loading replies

This episode was a disaster; the worst episode ever of Black Mirror! What were they thinking?

loading replies

so is this a good black mirror episode: absolutely not. a vague allegory about paparazzi and hollywood and :sparkles: who's the real monster :sparkles: shoehorned in at the very end is a garbage way to try and tie it into the overarching genre of the anthology as a whole.

but imma be real i still liked it. the actors are good. i gave a shit about mazey day despite what little we knew about her and i felt very grossed out by the paparazzi as intended and the gore was entertaining. and zazie beetz and her roommate tbh, hysterical. so i enjoyed it, and i think rating it lower than a 5 or 6 is a little dramatic. but no this isn't a black mirror episode at all.

loading replies

Saw the ratings and thought it couldn't be this bad. Well it was really bad indeed.

loading replies

Awful episode. I get it.. paparazzi vs celebs. I even understood how the werewolf could be seen as a metaphor for how someone can turn monstrous when pushed to far. But this was a snooze. Not up to the Black Mirror universe.

loading replies

Not the best Black Mirror episode, but also not the worst. It did a great job satirizing the paparazzi and clearly showed their lack of boundaries, which is unfortunately not far from the truth. The main character struggled with the morality of what she was doing but still did what she did in the end. This episode was short and sweet, never dragged on at any point. Also did a good job showing the drug-riddled film industry and the mental health struggle. The ending was typical black mirror fashion and the climaxes almost never miss. Did not see Mazey Day turning into the werewolf or killing everybody else. The two rude filthy paparazzi members literally had no fear for their lives and at least they got to use the camera shots they got. The double meaning of "Shoot Me" was well built up and the last 10 minutes felt like a blur after all the buildup. Overall, solid 7/10 and worth a watch after watching all the elite Black Mirror episodes.

loading replies

This was such a promising episode, they could say lots about the paparazzi industry and the like, but instead they chose to talk about... werewolves? Really? It does have a decent story, but not for a Black Mirror episode.

loading replies

This is a poor horror episode. Twilight Zone. Nothing more.

loading replies

Felt like Hammer House of Horror meets The Twilight zone rather than BM, but apart from that it had a very unexpected plot twist, making it better than the last episode.

loading replies

I didn't see the twist coming, but this wasn't good, and as others have pointed out, this has almost nothing to do with the actual concept of Black Mirror.

loading replies

Someone has been playing The Quarry

loading replies

I quite liked this when it finally got going. The paparazzi lenses did indeed steal the celebrities' souls, and with that final shot, stole the photographer's soul too. Just over a quarter century on from Diana, and this couldn't be more timely.

Also, for all the whingers, all any episode needs in order to be a valld Black Mirror episode is some kind of device with some kind of screen playing a role in the drama. That's literally all. This one easily meets that criterion, as does the true crime one.

Disappointing title though.

loading replies

Not bad by any means, but it looks more like a half-baked university student attempt than a polished high budget episode. It's filled with lots and lots symbolism, you gotta give this episode that. Nobody is innocent in this game and the real bosses are behind the scenes. I'm a big fan of moving the plot back to 2006, also a big fan of music choices

loading replies

I've enjoyed the season so far but have to agree that this episode is a letdown: so many loose ends, and what's anything got to do with anything?

Good pace, suspenseful, surprising and then falls flat.

loading replies

I know this episode is not good enough for the series, but it’s still my top-2 for this season. Because other are just much worse.

loading replies

Reasonably engaging and fun on a what-will-happen-next level, but this is a case of the journey being better than the destination which I find rather silly. Zazie Beetz really elevates this, helping injecting some humane dimension into the commentary.

loading replies

Well made, but very unoriginal. If this was not part of Black Mirror and I read its plot, I would have skipped it.

loading replies

I don't know what this plot is trying to convey. You said it might be a satire of paparazzi, but then suddenly a celebrity hits someone and flees. You think the female protagonist will use secret photography to expose the truth, but instead, she finds out that the female celebrity is being held captive. You think that the plot will reveal that the doctor is a pervert, but instead, the female celebrity suddenly turns into a werewolf and goes on a killing spree. You thought this might introduce other fantastic plot twists, but she is injured by the female lead and returns to her original form. The female celebrity asks the female lead to kill her, and the female lead hands her the gun. The female celebrity drinks the bullet and commits suicide. Then, the female lead takes a picture of the scene, and that's the ending. I am full of question marks.

loading replies

I hate being negative about this show but these are getting worse and worse. This felt like an abandoned Netflix script that got scrapped for a reason. It's downright boring and unimaginative, especially for a Black Mirror episode. No social of technological commentary, just a mindless horror piece. Zazie Beetz is wasted talent here, she had nothing interesting to do and any actress could have filled her shoes. The last 12 minutes was wild and great special effects though.

loading replies

Not a good episode. What happened with the hit and run? Was it a warewolf and it bit her? Strange and quite frankly - boring.

loading replies

Exposing the Hollywood elites for Profit.

Charlie Brooker went all out and just straight up called the elites inhuman here, or at least said some are put under curses, while also making a snarky commentary on the paparazzi and people who instigate the idolization of these celebrities.

Definitely one of the lazier episodes. The first half was a boring setup and the second half, despite being cool, was unfortunately rushed - Uta Briesewitz is a director of TV (as opposed to film) which I think explains the pacing here.

loading replies

If people were to let go their expectancy towards this show, they’d enjoy it a lot more. What is a Black Mirror episode by default anyway?
Mazey Day has an intriguing story with a decent twist. Kept me hooked to screen right until the end.

loading replies

Uh, what? Production values are excellent as any other Black Mirror episode, but this is NOT BLACK MIRROR. NO technology, NO futurism, NO science fiction, NO thought-provoking, not even any lessons for the viewer. -4 stars

What a let down.
What is going on ?

loading replies

I wasn't expecting that...
But it didn't grab me...
It was good...

loading replies

That was pretty bizarre lol

loading replies

What did I just watched? I thought this was Black Mirror, not Twilight…

loading replies

This episode was originally named "How to create an incredibly clever, unique and original universe and then completely shit all over it!"

loading replies

i like it, the 2000s settings, not to long get straight to the point, unexpected plot twists. nice

loading replies

I liked it but it is not Black-Mirror-intelligent and propositional.

loading replies

How was this even related to Black Mirror? Completely out of context of the show.

loading replies

A bit pointless, it was cool to see an episode set in the early 2000's.

loading replies

Not the best episode, disappointing.
Far too much camera flash for my liking .

loading replies

Another horribly boring episode. This time featuring degenerate Hollywood scum. This season should have never been made. Or at least rebrand the season do some thing like "etards who work at Starbucks talk about trying to make real money."

loading replies

Two crappy American episodes in a row

loading replies

Wow, what a waste of time. Werewolves? Wtf? 5/10

loading replies

Never ever (apart from Twilight - ha ha) have I quit a film or an episode early. This absolute bullshit made me quit not only this episode but Black Mirror for good. It’s a shame what a once mindblowing series ended up in. What a waste of an evening.

This is a pretty good episode of a horror show. It is also a terrible episode of BLACK MIRROR. And what is the point of setting it in the past?

OTOH, the actress in the title role is new to me and is incredibly appealing, so there's that.

loading replies

Wow, was that it? Seriously?

loading replies

I thought this season was excellent and I don't give a toss what anyone else says. Tried to watch FAST X and couldn't stomach it and I found myself watching this and enjoyed this way way better.

loading replies

Decent show but not deserving of the "Black Mirror" label.

What I hated the most was the Mary Sue tilt on the ending where the trained officer aimed and fired at the werewolf several times with no result but the MS can wild fire under pressure at a moving target and kill it... and of course she comes out unscathed with millions of dollars worth of pictures completely fixing her situation.

loading replies

nothing like the normal black mirror idea, the plot twist was just weird and had nothing to do with the plot this episode was setting

loading replies

just meh, nothing more. Watching this, I feel a strong urge to rewatch season 1.

loading replies

this is quite boring.so much hate for paparazzi?

loading replies

Yeah it was fine, for the Twilight Zone or Outer Limits or something. This is not Black Mirror.

loading replies

not zazie being wasted for one of the worst episode of BM ever made.....

loading replies

Plot Twists so dumb that make you wonder why this episode didn't have a happy end where an alliance of the Easter Bunny, the Tooth-Fairy and the Care-Bears appear out of thin air and save the day.

loading replies

an episode with lots of interesting ideas about celebrity culture and paparazzi however failed to actually make a substantial and interesting comment

loading replies

Not the best Black Mirror episode, didn't feel like much was happening and the twist at the end came out of absolutely nowhere. I did actually love how insanely weird and unexpected that twist was, but I don't think the episode really earned it. There are some dark themes regarding paparazzi/media, as well as maybe some subtle hints at the secretive aspects of Hollywood and celebrities, but I also don't think the latter was fully committed to. Some pretty great shots particularly the final shot, but mostly this was just a painfully average episode of TV with a wacky twist that I admittedly really enjoyed even if it wasn't that well executed.

6.4/10 -- Decent

This is not a black mirror episode. It’s horror. Black mirror, IMHO, is about something that can actually occur in the future. This ain’t it

loading replies

In Czechoslo... somewhere (fuck you too) in the era of Windows XP and iPods there weren't even any wolves, let alone werewolves . There is no Vssi Blod either.
As much as I don't understand it, I quite liked certain parts. Wasn't it just a bad trip from shrooms? I had a similar one...

loading replies

Nightcrawler has done it better. It is all I have to say.
