I am so thankful that this didn't suck. Yes, there are changes from the Cartoon but I think is ok . If you want to rewatch the exact same story, then re-watch the OG. Anyway, great fight sequences, great effects. I think we missed Aang doing some Waterbending though. But anyway, it was very enjoyable

Overall it was a decent and enjoyable season, definitely better than I anticipated. There were quite a few choices (especially in the second half of the season) that felt dumb and I would have done different. But one thing mainly bothered me. Arguably the most important part of the Avatar's story is: the Mastering of the four elements (I mean the books are literally called: Water, Earth, Fire), and yet it felt very unexplored (Aang didn't even learn waterbending?! Like wtf?). They decided to cut fundamental episodes dealing with this like the waterbending scroll episode and the Jeong Jeong episode. I wish they delved more into Aang trying to master the elements, but also Katara mastering waterbending. Despite this issue I still had a good time and am intrigued to see how they would handle the second book.

A very uneven episode. Some parts were really excellent, whereas other parts really dropped the ball. Big character moments feel hollow because they haven’t been set up well or are just cheesy.

How exactly does wasting a huge portion of your forces attempting to conquer the Northern Water Tribe serve as any kind of distraction to help the Fire Nation conquer Omashu…? It's not like Omashu sent any forces to help… I suppose the Avatar might have otherwise been there to help Omashu but he was long gone anyway.

This was an ok episode besides:
"You found a master, haven’t you?"
How inappropriate, Katara didn’t train here with Paku like she did in the original series.

And there was some bad CGI when Aang ran away after he saw Han.

BTW I remembered now, what happened to Joeng Joeng? With him Aang learned to respect fire.
When I think about it, soo much is missing. The episode with the fortuneteller for example. It was one of my favorites.

Edit: Why aren‘t Azula‘s flames blue? How could you not implement this? It is a part of her character.
But the spirit of moon monster was nice. :joy:

Avatar: The last airbender
Book 1: Air.. Apparently

Aang didn't bend a single droplet of water despite that being the core of the entire show... Him learning to master elements.

The show is faithful in most aspects. In some it chooses not to be. That could be why some people involved with the animated show left over creative differences.
Which does sound like Netflix. When they stopped wanting to be faithful to the Witcher. Which cost them Henry Cavill.
Not having Ang learn water bending does sound like a Netflix thing. I am sure he will learn it though. Maybe they didn’t want to rush it. Since in the movie Ang did master water bending in like a minute lol.

This episode was so messy and filled with information, that I'm actually surprise by how good it was. I need to see the opinion of someone who never watched the cartoon, cause I got the impression that some things were left unexplained.

I really like how they incorporate azula into this, zhao dropping that bombshell onto zuko was such a good moment

This should have been named Katara: The Waterbender.

She had such an interesting story arc than Ang. She learned the waterbending thought importance of female warriors, etc, to old master Paku. Feels like her journey had satisfying and had more purpose than Ang's.

The Waterbender Godzilla was somewhat cool. Lousy cliffhanger ending though.

It's all just very hollow in the shadow of the original. Because of storyline mashing and rush job, nothing has time to build gravitas or meaning of it's own. It's almost banking on you having seen the original to fill in the blanks which is very lazy and results in a lacklustre show.
High for this episode is hearing more of François Chau's unmistakable voice. Mr Dharma initiative himself is always welcome on my screen.
The rest of them can do one.
Even rampaging Azula isn't enough to bring me back for season 2 coz her casting like most of them is a disappointment.
