Oof what a drop in quality from the first season. Worse writing and no Joel Kinnamon.
Season 2 was awesome! If you watched season 1, I highly recommend it even though the vibe of the show is different.
Halfway through this season I can say it isn't as good as the first one. It features less neo-noir, less grit (yes its still harsh, but not gritty), an abundance of strong wamen (or is it a lack of normal women) and a plot that doesn't quite captivate as much as the previous. I don't like the new actor either, he just doesn't have the weird symbiont look the previous one has but all in all he doesn't appear a lot in episodes to be frank. His acting, and most of the main cast, doesn't feel like people who live in this world.
The return of Poe is great although he, as well, seems to have lost some grit.
I love the world of Altered Carbon and the possibilities are almost endless, I want to see more of this world I just wish it was more like season 1. Season 2 seemed more narrow in it's execution and that's not what an infinite world like this needs.
I'm grateful there are serious scifi tvshow. There aren't that many in the cyberpunk genre either.
That said 2nd season wasn't as good as first one. It falls into the same traps I see many other shows and movies fall in. Not even sure if it's a trap. Unnecessary melodrama is probably much easier to come up with than a decent scifi story.
I never finished the book so I don't know if second season was even based on the book at all.
Seems like they spent all the budget on Anthony Mackie.
Terrible plot, and abysmal execution.
They turned the show from a groundbreaking neo noir cyberpunk/cyber thriller to some generic bullshit.
Do yourself a favour and skip this one. (you won't miss much, but if you are still hesitant, just watch the first few episodes and you will understand what I am talking about. Play it at 10x if you still care and want an alternative to completing the show other than painfully watching every episode like I did.)
Poor followup to a great first season
season 2 is boring. how can it be so bad?
the 1st season was better in every aspect... sadly the 2nd one was filled with cliches, way over the top and very predictable story... also netflix just had to push their sjw agenda about same sex marriage and only actors of color in main roles... what a load of bullcrap...
I see people really liked Poe's character and I think that is because he was the only one with good acting skills...
Wow - poor choice for a lead. Sooo much different than Joel Kinnaman it's impossible to suspend disbelief that it's the same Kovacs in a new sleeve. Really bad decision to not recast Kinnaman; the writing's terrible so what's one more plot hole?
I'm very upset - went from being one of my favorite Sci-fi shows to utter trash. Sad.
I didn’t plan on binging the entire season in a day, but I really enjoyed watching it despite being confused by the storyline a few times, but everything mostly came together towards the end. And to be honest, the storyline could’ve been a lot better, but whatever.
My favorite character is Poe. I still feel that he’s being under utilized, even though we got see a lot more of him this season than last. I hope next season the writers’ expand a lot more on the character and we eventually see a Sleeved Poe — that’ll be so dope!
I imagine that Anthony Mackie had to cost production dearly ... So much money spent on an "actor" who turns out to have only two fascial expressions in stock and the charisma of a Z-series actor.
So much money that could have been spent on decorations and special effects and especially to pay a screenwriter with a little more talent!
A disaster ! Thanks to the production for having ruined the rest of a first season which, even if it was not perfect, had a lot of quality!
Not to be shallow but out of every sci-fi option I had, I did pick this one because of Joel Kinnaman!
The great chemistry between Ortega and Kovacs kinda made season 1 for me, the plot was never this series most compelling aspect. If I do eventually end up finishing the new season it's gonna be because of my OCD against dropping tv shows.
A decent follow up to the first series, I didn't find it as thought provoking and at points the plot can be a little linear. Some episodes merely act merely as filler, it feels like this could have been condensed into a theatrical length film. Visually beautiful with some good ideas, by far the stars of the show are Simone Missick who plays the interesting cyberpunk hacker/bounty hunter with one foot in the action and another trying to balance her commitments to family and the absolutely fabulous Chris Conner.
Exploring the fragmentation of Poe makes him feel only so much more human, a trait which unfortunately is lacking in leads Anthony Mackie and Renee. I understand this is a point the show is trying to make, the humans who have experienced lifetimes of memories and have moved from sleeve to sleeve are potentially less human than their AI counterparts but this just means we don't feel as invested in our lead two. The big reveal of the elders follows a fairly standard execution of aliens in sci-fi, the mystery disappears and unfortunately what could have been a deep dive into an alien culture is brought short abruptly with flashy fight sequences.
Enjoyable enough for any sci-fi/cyberpunk fans.
It's like a different more child-friendly show that takes place in the same universe.
Go watch the first season and forget the second season ever existed and if you watched the first season just go rewatch it cause it slaps, unfortunately, this season ain't it
That was way badder than 1st one :(
Watched the 1st ep of season 2 and got confused a bit. As I progress further, the storyline made sense. Overall, pretty good season. Finished in 2 days else you can probably finish it in 1 day if you binge-watch it.
I love poe.... Do a season backstory just on him...
More humanity in his fingers than all the rest of the characters...
But yer I binged it in one day... Love Sci Fi...
Season 1 was great. Not impressed with season 2 thus far. the story seems slow and uninteresting. Anthony Mackie is a good actor but they should've keep Joel Kinnaman as the lead. even tho i doubt Joel Kinnaman would of saved the show because the storyline is boring. that's probably why it got cancelled after two season.

No, just no. I really tried to understand what it’s about, but I doubt there is a plot. Just some gratuitous violence and fighting, but for what? Uninteresting second season , end of story.
I was so hoping that I would get the visuals and story from the second book. But Netflix took both second and third books took out all the good parts and threw in some incomprehensible bullshit to ruin what could have been a fantastic series.
Loved it. There's nothing wrong with season 2. Season 2 is just different from season 1. Guess for some it's like that game you played when you were a kid that doesn't feel the same now. Most of the people who were disappointed just had unrealistic expectations. Season 3 might have brought back some of that feeling from season 1, but guess we'll never know since the show was canceled.
I personally blame the show thumbnails for that. They are just not representative at all of what this show is and are the reason why I didn't watch it sooner. Gotta thank youtube for putting a fan edit of this show in my recommendations feed, if it wasn't for it, I probably never would have watched this masterpiece.
Best season ever. It is different from the first one but i love it also. This season 2 is more like westworld. You should watch all this season twice to begin really to understand the story which is really good. And the end is complety crazy. So like it. 10/10 for season 2. I hope that the next kovacs will be a ninja guy or girl and we will understand more about the elders.
Not as powerful as the first season, but the wisdom in the show at least stayed true to it, and still rang vibrating throughout it.
Everyone but Joel comes up again :(
I have read criticism that almost unanimously says that the 2nd season is a downgrade from the 1st one. Bad writing, bad acting, inconsistent quality in a wide range of aspects... while I would like to be able to personally verify those things, I won't.
This may seem odd, but I'll criticize the 2nd season having only watched the 1st episode for one simple detail which is big for me. It's about the lead actor being changed, something which I should have expected given the show's premise of sleeves (mind/body transplants). Either way, it's something that breaks any show for me, the same reason why I could never get on board with Doctor Who.
I am not a huge fan of the previous lead, but I much preferred Joel Kinnaman to Anthony Mackie - although that is probably biased by the fact that I got attached to the actor from the 1st season, but I never really liked Anthony as an actor anyway. I keep repeating myself, I don't like one bit when leads are switched, even when the reason for it is death - case in point: Spartacus. When the late Andy Whitfield (RIP) was replaced by Liam McIntyre, I did go along with the show, but just because the show was damn good, yet it still was very hard to keep up with the lead change up until the end of the show.
I know this may seem unfair and poor criticism, but that's really how I feel about any show when it comes to this; I don't feel like throwing away 6 hours of my life just to validate something which I already know to be true for me.

Wow, I did not expect the second season to be even worse than the first one. This is just plain bad.
