Luke operates on a patient who ends up dying due to a complication. Ben and Bron make up after he admits that he is finally over Steph.
Ben and Scott arrive at a low security prison to find a siege in progress with a guard, a nurse and another inmate held hostage in the prison clinic. A post-op patient lands Connor in trouble with Luke. Terri reveals to Von that she is worried Dr Pussle will want to progress the relationship faster than she can handle.
Von never makes it to the charity ball when her little friend Zac's condition worsens. Terri and Malcolm bond at the ball, but Terri is shocked to discover that Rose suffers from bi-polar disease. Pussle and Terri's future together is uncertain after Mitch and Pussle's arguments over a patient force their mutual jealousy over Terri out into the open.
Scott is put to the test when Ben blacks out on the job. An emotionally distraught Bron then puts Ben's life at risk by undermining Luke's confidence before surgery. A man's life is thrown into turmoil when told he is terminally ill, only to later discover that there was a mix-up and he isn't going to die.
Mitch and Roses' relationship reaches a crisis when Mitch no longer responds to his wife's manipulations.
Connor is speechless when he bumps into Jodi pole-dancing in a club. Terri finds another nurse rape victim and to Von's surprise, the battle-axe she is nursing turns out to have the key to soothing the rape victim's pain. Mitch is driven mad by Rose's mother. While Terri would love to help, Mitch makes it clear that she's the last person who can do so. Luke pulls off a tricky operation.
An ex-priest undergoes a near-death experience and returns to life claiming there is no God, stirring up Terri's emotions. Mitch is frustrated when Rose turns up at work and refuses to talk to him, and Lucy is not in the crèche. Jodi arrives back at work, but wonders if she has made the right decision. Luke is moved by a new and innovative way to treat a Parkinson's patient. Terri learns the truth about Malcolm's secret, leading them to make a life-changing decision.
Nelson Curtis, a nurse practitioner and Paula Morgan, a registered nurse are employed in two new permanent positions on the ward. Malcolm questions Von's competence as a nurse and whether or not she should be taking care of a patient with complications from a caesarean. On his way home, Mitch is witness to a terrible car crash. A delusional Rose contacts the Ward when Mitch fails to arrive home and alarms Terri, who must choose whether she wants to take the job at Stanford University. Terri finds Rose, unconscious with her life hanging in the balance.
