Good movie but too drawn out. Those 3 hours should have been 2 hours of good entertainment.
I've always like Western so this was a no-brainer for me. I like it even more today because of the more natural type of filmmaking. Those kind of movies have, sadly, become rare today.
I like the way Earp is shown here. Not the above all good guy like in the older movies but more of a man with issues. Costner does a convincing portrayal. They put together a great cast for this movie. So many well known names.
Althought over 3 hours in total I never felt bored. The extra hour is nessessary to lay the foundation for Earps actions later.
It is a good movie to watch more than once with a couple of years in betweeen.
Not as dynamic as Tombstone and with a cast that's not as electric, but it's a fuller story, that delves more into the human side of these characters. You get a fuller story, even if it drags a bit. Works better as a history lesson, as this was apparently the more true to life story.
"Wyat Earp" had the misfortune to be released not long after the classic "Tombstone," which told the same story. Nevertheless, "Wyat Earp" is a laudable effort and well worth the time to sit through its three hours and fifteen minutes running time.
incredible story although not as good as it's competitor tombstone.

With a runtime of over 3 hours, and a star-studded cast like this, I expected to be absolutely enthralled almost from start 'til finish. Unfortunately, this missed the mark by a country mile. While it had its moments (the one thing in the movie's description that can't be argued is the line "stunning cinematography" ) it was far, far removed from what I was expecting. There was very little about Wyatt Earp as one of the fastest, most feared gunslinging lawmen of the wild west; instead, this basically a story about "Wyatt Earp, the guy in the west who was just like a thousand other guys in the west, only with a more well-known name". Seriously... I watched this because I was expecting to see a CONSIDERABLE amount about "Wyatt Earp, the gunslinger" who helped tame so many towns in his day. Not sure how close to "historically accurate" this actually was, but this just basically turned out to be a very long boring movie about an ordinary guy with a well-known name. I give it a "Fair" because of the cast and the cinematography, and because it had some interesting moments but overall, I wouldn't watch this one again. I like Kevin Costner, but_Tombstone_ was a much better movie, and an hour shorter. And no offense to the cast of Wyatt Earp but the cast of Tombstone was much MUCH better. Val Kilmer needs his own Doc Holliday movie!
