Perfect. I can't believe it's over for good! Gonna miss it so much.
A long time ago, we used to be friends...
LoVed the moVie! #MARShmallowforlife
One of the first 'tv-to-movie' specials I've seen that has been just as good as the TV show. Impressive.
This was everything I didn't know I needed. I'm so happy with it! LoooooooooooooooooooVe.
Really good movie that is especially appealing to fans of the original series which includes me. I was really thrilled that this movie was made and Veronica's story was continued after season three's end was anything but a fitting end for the series.
It was just great to see Veronica back in avtion after all these years. One thing I didn't like was how they handled Veronica's relationship eith Piz. They were so good together and their break-up by telephone seemed way to rush. But I guess this is the price to pay by making a film which was previously a TV show. Apart from this it's a cool movie with familar faces and an interesting story. I'm just so glad that there is a new season now.
In all honesty, this movie is in a category very few t.v. to movie films make it into. The way this movie started and finished all very nice. After watching the movie, I wanted to go back and re-watch all the tv show episodes!
First: if you don't know / didn't like the tv show, this is probably not for you, it's not pure fan service, but a lot of the enjoyment comes from the past of all those characters.
It's not perfect. How could it be, there is no way it can live up to seven years of expectations. The fact that it even got made was probably a minor miracle (even when I'm not a fan of the fans-take-the-risk-studio-gets-the-profits model, it worked).
But what Rob Thomas did well was capture a lot of the old charm, the pop culture references, the snarky comments. The murder mystery plot itself was only somewhat interesting, but that's probably not the reason anyone is watching in the first place, right? The plot is basically a tool to get a ton of old characters some screen time, make some references to their past, portray some big changes, or total lack thereof, have them trade some verbal (or physical) punches. I enjoyed the little things a lot, like the reference to the FBI hail mary season 4 teaser, the favor asked of Wallace, stuff like that, that make a fan happy.
But not everything was sunshine, I got a bit annoyed but some of the story arcs they started for no good reason, but then left totally unresolved (Wevil, for example). Sure, there are books by Rob Thomas that are canon, but it's just not the same, and I don't realistically expect anything new in movie or TV show form.
Aah, finally. Veronica Mars was one of my favorite shows when I was a teenager, and the third season by CW was just frustrating. It's nice to finally have this movie, full of familiar faces (I wish Leighton had played Carrie Bishop though, I missed her!) and the same old Veronica struggling with her self-destructive drives. And well, to have her and Logan back together, yes, that was all I wanted!
Just love it.All the sensations I had watching the show are back. And Kristen is prettier than ever...
This is made for people who have seen the series. I have not seen the series and I could imagine I would have enjoyed this more if I had seen it. Nevertheless I did enjoy it on some level.
Totally awesome! If you loved the show, you'll love the movie. It's just as great and everybody's in it. Watching it was like turning back in time, really enjoyable.
Also, Team Logan! Yeah!!!
Really enjoyed this movie, Lo lo lo love Logan. ♥
But honestly, if I hadn't been wearing my "marshmallow" goggles it would only earn a 6.
To truly get the most out of this movie you MUST see the series first. ;)
If you liked the series, you will like the movie, murder, accused friend, Veronica helps. I liked
Veronica Mars was a really fun TV-show so no suprise the funding actually happend here. That is great for the fans and even better for the studios cashing in twice on this...
Now for the movie; if you watched the series you are probably going to watch it anyways but if you didn't there isn't really something here. Seeing this marketed as a feature film is rather awkward. It works as an extension to the universe but not a movie because it really is a rather simple "case". I agree with @TeM that the ten year gap didn't carry much weight for most and that Veronica did was she obviously would do seems like full-on pandering.
enjoyable but not so much as a typical VM episode. still it was a nice "ending",something we were missing
This was a fitting ending for the people who had watched the series, but as a stand-alone movie it does not reach very high. Luckily, I had watched it, and did enjoy they movie. Great job, kickstarters.
I've been a big fan of VERONICA MARS since the beginning. It's writing is clever, it's characters well defined and engaging. The mysteries have depth and layers of social commentary and no small amount of a cynical, world weary, tough view of life. The TV series had all of this. This crowd funded movie, which is a product of the longing of it's audience ($2,000,000 was raised in 10 hours), however, missed the mark. Many of the things we admired about the series were missing in the movie. The acting was sluggish, the plot was secondary, it lacked the quick wit and crisp writing. It did, however, give fans lots of inside jokes and cameo snaps of former characters. However, when Hulu brought us a fourth season of the beloved series, everything that made this series great was back in place. The series is on my Top TV Series list, and I rate it a 10 (perfect) out of 10. The movie has now become a blip in the inbetween and I rate it a 5 (a place holder for fan value, only) out of 10. I truly hope Hulu will continue giving us more seasons of this treasured series. [Teen Noir Drama]
Warning: This review refers to some events that happened in the TV-Series this is a sequel of. If you haven't seen the series yet and don't want to get spoiled, don't read this and don't watch the movie.
After just watching all 3 seasons of the series this movie is a follow-up and thought to be a conclusion of, I feel disappointed with this outing. Many people have stated that this feels like a long episode of the TV-Series. And this fits pretty well, considering it features just one case. But for a single case it runs longer than it should. But for a case like the one which is being presented, one that would have normally been a season wide case, it runs too short. This creates the feeling of it being rushed while being too slow at the same time. It has an uneven balance, if you will, which creates an awkward feeling of being bored even though you think you have all the ingredients. And that's disappointing because you actually don't have the ingredients that made the series good. You have some of them, yes, but the proportions are all wrong.
The series had a good balance of case solving, school stuff, banter between different characters and daddy-daughter interactions. The latter of which was the heart of the series, at least in my ees, and is painfully kept to a bare minimum in the movie - but with a reason, as Veronica is not a kid anymore. The movie also replaces the school stuff with Veronica trying to get a job as a lawyer at some firm, kept to an even barer minimum, or the school reunion. I'm not sure what is meant to be the replacement. What runs wild is the case solving (which is one of the worst and boring compared to other Veronica Mars cases) and the banter between characters, which is mostly limited to interactions between Logan, who is yet again a murder suspect (third time's the charm I guess), and Veronica - who is currently dating Piz again - whose appearance is also kept to a bare minimum. I don't know why he's even there, but apparently the movie needed to find a way to put every old player back into the game somehow. There also is a Lamb back as sheriff in Neptune.
But it's not Don, because he's ... you know ... dead. It's his older brother Dan, whose name doesn't sound like it was meant bring back Don in any way, shape or form. He also doesn't feel like a copy of Don. Nope. Not at all. Mac and Wallace are also back, both still living in Neptune but not living their dream job-wise - but this can happen in life and is actually something good the movie is doing. They don't really do stuff in the movie besides getting Veronica to the school reunion and talk about the good old times. Then we have Weevil who, surprisingly, evolved the most out of all characters during the time between the series' end and the movie, which makes what happens in the movie only more disappointing...
And that is my biggest gripe with the movie: It feels very contrived and is not giving the promised closure. Hell, the Season 3 finale gave more closure than this. This is a new beginning, already setting up stuff for the next movie, which perhaps will be the closure we've been promised.
Here be movie-spoilers:
Even Rob Thomas stated he originally wanted to tell a different story (The Ten Thousand Dollar Tan Line), but he had to tell this one first. And this is why I think the story feels contrived and like a set up: because it is. But bringing every character - even a Lamb one - back into the roles they had during the TV series doesn't bode well for future installments, which are surely coming.
This was pretty bad. I never watched the TV series, so this was my first introduction to Veronica Mars. This movie seemed like it was made for grown up Scoobie Doo audience. it was cheesy, random, and worst of all BORING! Don't waste your time on this one.
I love Veronica Mars, but this is just a bad movie. For those who have never seen the series, this movie is sure to turn them away from it with its cringey dialogue. I can only see those who were already fans of the show enjoying this, but even then it's pretty disappointing.
Really disappointing movie.
It is mainly targeted at hardcore fans, without a glimpse of critical sense. I guess this is okay given the kickstarter campaign.
Having watched and enjoyed the series myself, this movie just made me feel like I wasted 1 hour and a half. The scenario presents absolutely no interest, it's basically the first season of the show re-done in fast-forward, with no surprise whatsoever. Character development is terrible, we're initially presented with this completely incoherent version of the usual suspects ten years after the last episode, only to see them go back to their "previous" lives by the end of the movie. (aka : wtf ? then boring)
So no, re-throwing the same catchphrases and bringing back the exact same scenes ten years after is NOT ok, and it's not fun either. Actually it's rather insulting to the viewer. Please do yourself a favour, don't watch this, and stick to the original series.
Well. That was something. It somewhat succeeded as a love letter to the fans but can't really stand on its own merits. I think there were too many plot arcs with too little time for development. The movie feels like listening to your friend, the bad storyteller, describing the totality of Veronica Mars without providing any life or depth.
Just binged the whole series, and this movie was a damn treat! Can't wait for season 4
Guys I've never seen Veronica Mars. Is this like a conclusive movie of a TV series like Serenity for Firefly or like the conclusive movie of Prison Break? Shall I avoid it if I know nothing of the TV series? Thanks.
