After watching this, I was asking myself:"What the heck did I just watch?".
Was this made by a film student? Checking on IMDB shows an estimated budget of $100,000 but that doesn't mean the story has to suck!
What this film gets right is completely negated by what it gets wrong: unanswered questions. The classic suspense build-ups are there: creaking doors, turn-around surprises, and questionable characters. I admit, I really liked the slow tension ascension - I couldn't tell if it was ghosts, or a maniac killer, or just in the mind of the main character(s). But then they pour on more slow walking to scary area gimmicks and you just want to get past it, thinking: Okay, okay....I get it!
Then, in the last 2 minutes of the movie, we find out nothing. This is one of the absolute worst things you can to your audience: leave 'em hanging with no hint of resolution. This is why they suggest in film school to tell your story orally over and over again to people. If someone told me this story the way it was reflected on screen, I would say, "You got quite a turd on your hands there, wtf happens?! Go back and think it over, there is potential there."
This movie will leave you frustrated and I wouldn't recommend it. Instead, watch The Others for a good mind-f*&$# ending!
Seriously disappointed in this film, it was pretty good up until the last 20 minutes, where they left every single question unanswered, and ruined the whole film. No mention of who the person in the open house was, or of their motives! Absolute rubbish.
"Death. It's like it moves in and never leaves."
What a dreary, slow, monotonous waste of 90 minutes! This film is like a checklist of horror cliches brought to life. They're all included just for the sake of it. Seriously, these things happen for absolutely no reason and are never explained (someone's nose randomly starts bleeding, there's a blocked off passageway in a cellar, some old lady acts like a creepy-ass bitch and so on). There is no point to them actually happening. None whatsoever.
///// The following four paragraphs contain spoilers but please read them anyway because you should not watch this movie /////
The antagonist is absolutely ridiculous. He just... does things. He moves someone's cereal bowl from their bedroom to the living room in the time it takes that person to travel between those two rooms. How? And, more importantly, why?!
He attacks someone, then while they're on the ground he pours water on them. Why? Did he want them to slowly freeze to death outdoors? Does he just think it's amusing when people are drenched in water? Why not, I dunno, kill them maybe?
He lies down in bed next to someone while they're asleep. In the middle of the night this person wakes up and looks through a pile of family photos. The antagonist has somehow managed to take photos of this person while they're sleeping, develop/print them and sneak them into the pile of family photos in literally no time at all. How did he know they would wake up and start looking through photos? WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS?
You never learn anything about the antagonist. His motivations? No. His possible connection to a murder that takes place at the beginning? No. He just wants to murder these people because they had an open house. What a giant middle finger to the audience.
Genuinely bad 'thriller.' In real estate terms, this movie deserves foreclosure.
Worst ending in history. A HUGE WTF. What a waste of time
I started the movie like: ooohh, creepy, I like it. Kept waiting for something to happen and nothing.
Little did I know nothing would make sense.
This film was going good until it hit that open ended ending....nothing was explained and it ruined the whole film.
What came into Dylan Minette's mind and he agreed on doing this awfully written movie?! This is exactly the kind of Horror movie you'd expect to be released in theaters on a January, only now, it's on Netflix.
I just hated that I didn't know who thw killer was or WHY he was doing it!!
This movie is an insult to the history of cinema. It's totally bullshit! Waste of time!
That was awkward movie... O.o
terrible movie. nothing makes sense. worst ending ever
the best part: quando acaba
Worst film i ever watched
WTF is this? I mean, the movie builds tension and that‘s really cool. You think about what could happen and who‘s behind it all. But then... nothing. NOTHING happens in the ending. No explanation, it‘s just over. You could waste your time better with staring at a wall. I‘m seriously so disappointed.
Holy crap 47% at time of writing. This stinker must be seen just for the experience. Adding to watchlist.
This movie is such a mess. it doesn't work as thriller nor terror
Horror for 14 year olds (or 16 year old virgins).
I'm so angry after finishing this movie. Just... what was the point? It's a slow build up of tension and mystery only for you to never find out what was even going on. No questions are answered.
Was an ok spooky flick until the end. Not in a “bs ending” kind of way. It was just dumb and a likely attempt to start a franchise that they bailed on.
My Ratings
10 - I love it, regardless of quality
9 - Very good, might not love but very well done or might love, forgiving some issues
8 - Very enjoyable or Just OK for me but well done
7 - Good
6 - Watchable despite not liking the film/show
5 - Mid
3-4 - Not great, but got through it
1-2 - Very bad/You might be a communist if you like this garbage
Extremely dumb movie with a shitty ending. Wasted my time! 1/10
Bullshit, avoid if you value to the sanctity of a good horror movie.
Even the poster is shit, step up your game, Netflix.
It's like two terrible hack directors, who are actually actors, saw It Comes At Night and The Strangers, then said, "Hey, let's remake The Strangers without understanding anything that made that movie interesting. Then let's throw in the ending from It Comes At Night. People will love this!" Nothing is explored, nothing is explained, all set-up plot threads early-on are completely ignored in favor of an open ending, there are no interesting characters, the drama is extremely forced and immaturely edgy, the cinematography and editing is jarring and even laughable at quite a few points, but overall, it's a fucking bore. It's trying to be like so many other horror movies (other bad horror movies, mind you, I mentioned Paranormal Activity 3 once when watching), and even doesn't understand why those were successful. All I can tell you, is Netflix is not having a good track record with their original movies. Sure, some of you may argue about Gerald's Game, but ultimately, nothing has impressed me enough into thinking paying for a subscription to this service is worth it. The idea I enjoyed Insidious: The Last Key more from earlier this month is downright unacceptable. Avoid this house, trust me, you won't want to buy it.
what a waste of time in my opinion. i liked that dylan was in it so i said i'll give it a shot, but man oh man!!!
Such a terrible film and a big waste of time. I don't recommend it.
This movie was a total waste of time for me. No logic, no good scenarios or dialogues. Nothing good about this movie.
why does netflix manage to produce really good series, but not good movies?
sooooo .. it was just a serial killer ? ...
n the whole time i was trying to make theories n guesses like r u fr ? UGH
I want back 1h30m of my lifetime
I was trying to give new to me horror suspense movies a try for Spooktober but this was not it. Like at all. I rooted for no character but if I was told who the killer is or what he had against this family or the house I probably would have rooted for him…
It felt like something I've seen before, but executed very poorly.
The end of the movie shit everything. Without explanation, without meaning, without a reason, several loose ends. It had potential but it disappointed!
Has to be the most pointless horror movie I've watched as I turned it off halfway through and watched the rest months later.
I should have listened to the review of “what did I just watch.” The end makes no sense at all. While the movie sucks at building up tension as well.
Total waste of good cast. The movie is a huge mess. I like watching good horror movies in October. This was a waste. Depressing and pointless.
Wow this was really terrible!
A horrendous waste of time
Someone forgot to upload the rest of the movie, and the middle...
No sauce at all.
1.2 points -> Cinematography (0-3)
0.6 points -> Acting and Characters (0-2)
0.8 points -> Plot (0-3)
0.4 points -> Score (0-1)
0.1 -> enjoyed the movie. (0-1)
Aka. 3.1 points
I don't often shut a movie off this early, but the boring ass, predictable death scene of the loving father with the cut to the wake? Fuck that.
worst movie I ever watched
The director enjoyed shower scenes...I did not even make it through the entire movie...

Absolute shite. Please don't waste your time. Very predictable with a horrible ending. They don't show you who the killer is and what his intentions were for doing what he did. They explained absolutely nothing. I wasted an hour and a half on this dreadful movie. Don't make the same mistake I made.
