With a reliable British cast, “Paddington 2” provides another round of incredible storytelling, which leaves you all warm and fuzzy. This is one of the best family movies in recent years.
Another pleasant surprise with plenty of heart and charm. As well as great additions of Hugh Grant and Brendan Gleeson.
Adorably entertaining and beautifully crafted, the bear we all love is back for more... better, or should that be, "bearer" than before! 8/10
The scene where Paddington cries... Illegal
How is a movie about a CGI bear this good? It's just so happy and warm and fuzzy and wonderful. I regret missing this in theaters.
The best Wes Anderson film that Wes Anderson never made

My bio Paddington
How can anyone hate this bear. Those innocent eyes. That soft butter melting voice and great British charm. Even during his comedic mess ups, you can't get mad or annoyed at him. It's utterly delightful.
Only Paul King can make this work. 'Paddington 2' lives up to the hype and doesn't suffer from sequel curse. I'm not trying to over hype it, but it's right up there with 'The Dark Knight' and 'T2: Judgement Day'. Stepping away from being just a kids movie, because how this movie is directed and shot I would put on the same level of iconic directors.
You can see the influences of Wes Anderson with the framing, cartoonist colors, and comedic timing of every joke - Like an old fashion sense of humor. Even Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin can thrown into the mix in terms of chaotic scenes.
The cast are stellar. My complaint from the first film about the family characters not being that interesting, well that's changed here. Sally Hawkins, Hugh Bonneville, Brendan Gleeson, and Julie Walters were fantastic in this. I hope Hawkins (Mrs. Brown) gets her spin-off detective film.
Hugh Grant, on the other hand, is the show stealer here. He was freaking brilliant and makes one memorable villain. The different personalties he takes on to out smart everyone and you can truly see how, just how convincing it is. Paddington 1 & 2 have such complex villains.
My only complaint isn't with the film itself, but Ben Whishaw doesn't like marmalade in real life
I can only repeat what I said for the first film - Full of fancy and wonder. Fantastic cast. Wonderful bear, voiced beatifully. Great gag pieces. Spectacular comedic timing. I love the reoccurring West Indian jazz band. Beautiful small touches. Well done. I give this film a 9 (superb) out of 10. [Family Comedy]
Sometimes, I think, we get carried away in chasing bells and whistles. We seek the fresh gimmick, the new, unseen perspective, while overlooking the power of simple fundamentals. The Paddington sequel is the epitome of those fundamentals. It doesn't need to threaten the world or dazzle us with fireworks because it understands the basics of empathetic storytelling. Armed with a pleasant cast of characters (even the unsavory ones), plus a wonderful sense of humor, it spins a simple yarn with elementary motives that still manages to charm and surprise. It's also unexpectedly well-crafted in a technical sense, with a sharp photographic eye and ornate attention to detail that must have been inspired by Wes Anderson.
Yes, it's a family movie. I'd like to think Pixar has stomped many of those preconceptions to death by this point, but if you still can't get past the idea of talking bears in people clothes, that's your loss. What may appear to be a stiff bit of rudimentary mail-in shelf-filler is, instead, the big-hearted bedtime story you never realized you were missing.
What a lovely throwback to the original tv series in the pop-up book scene at the start . . .
Apparently I'm one of the few that didn't find the sequel to be superior to the original. Still a darn fine family film, however. Head and shoulders above 90% of the flicks that fall into that category, actually.
Ok he's cute as shit I'll pay attention I guess God!!!
There are many things to like about this film, but for me, it is the adherence to the original stories, in both sweetness and artistic style that gives the movie that special charm. A wonderful film for all ages - if only we were all a little more like Paddington, the world would be a much better place.
it's superb !!! must watch,
Thought it was a really decent film
I LOVE PADDINGTON HELL YEAH BABY
101: How to make a nice place out of ordinary prison
This film was sweet has marmalade. It tops the first by far! Heart warming. Great sense of humour. Fine cast.
An almost perfect movie. Fun for everyone with heartwarming messages. I cried.
Amazing sequel! Actually better than part 1. :bear:
Now that's what I call quality kino

A delightful watch. Runs you through the whole gamut of emotions, culminating in a beautiful heart swelling conclusion.
After my 3rd try of watching this movie..finally, I finished it! Not that it wasn't interesting. In fact, it was very entertaining and fun to watch. I only find the end a bit lacking. Like it peaked and it abruptly ended. anyway, it was still fun to watch. Very innocent and family friendly.
This movie was even a notch funnier, cuter, and more adventurous than the first one, I was really happy to see Hugh Grant and Brendan Gleeson and yes, of course I cried in the end.
Watched Saturday night with the family...
I have no prior knowledge of Paddington Bear, never read or heard the stories or even seen the first movie (the kids had). I found this to be a fun movie: heartwarming with an incredible cast. I was surprised at how many stars they stuffed into this movie... I'm guessing Paddington Bear is a lot bigger in the UK? I especially enjoyed the performances by the Hughs: Bonneville and Grant... And The Doctor! Of course he plays a gruff old man. It's great to see these big name actors not taking themselves seriously. Lots of humor aimed squarely at the adults in the audience.
Some of the the plot points were pretty weak, really just set up for gags, but this is a movie about a talking bear living in London. You've got to go in expecting some of this...
The kids seemed to like it alright, there was a lot of laughter. My wife LOVED it. Me? It was fun.
Oh Paddington, you lovable scamp! Most people would have watched the first Paddington before watching the sequel, but not me, Paddington is a talking bear that lives with a family in London, we get it. I like that the movie is basically Paddington saying he wants to do something, then smash cut to him trying to do that but messing it up in a Paddington way. It is a movie about having manners and being nice and that your good cheer will make the world around you a better place, I nodded off towards the end and Paddington was trapped underwater while the lady from The Shape of Water was trying to save him in I assume some sort of Shape Of Water nod? So in the end it is that movie, except for the whole family!
The first Paddington film, despite trepidation from the viewing public, was a great success, funny for everyone and endearing, almost the perfect children’s film for all the family to enjoy. Would Paddington 2 find the same success or would it turn out to be one bear too many?
Without a doubt, this film is a fabulous children’s film. All the same characters/actors return and feel like a nice comfortable pair of shoes. Hugh Bonneville and Sally Hawkins make great parents of the Brown children and who better to play the anchor in the family Mrs. Bird but the multi-talented Julie Walters? All it needed was an interesting and fun story and a memorable villain. It has these.
Hugh Grant is the star turn as the boo-hiss Phoenix Buchanan a part he clearly relishes playing, perhaps taking from his film-making experiences over the years, who knows? On the flipside, you have the legendary Brendan Gleeson playing the uncompromising Knuckles McGinty and at a stroke, the writers add in two new characters played by good, reliable actors that slot into the on-screen Paddington world perfectly.
The film looks great with the surroundings both familiar to most of us but somehow seemingly childlike with vibrant colours and a mainly bright palette. The script is fun and funny both for the children watching and the older people accompanying them and the pace never drags or slows.
The makers have slipped in worthy messages to the audience about tolerance, kindness and maybe just being nice without being heavy-handed or earnestly ‘preachy’. Odd that some critics of the film take some umbrage at this being suggested to children like it was some sort of bad message to be spreading. The story is touching and not without peril, particularly to the younger film-goers, but this is Paddington 2’s strength. It even has a surprisingly strong moment of serious peril at the end that was both poignant and very sad that seemed to be from a more adult focussed movie before we quickly returned to the more familiar ground of the Paddington 2 story. Watch out for it.
Without going too over-the-top about what is essentially a children’s film, the sequel to Paddington is extremely impressive and ultimately fun particularly when considering the target audience. It seems some have lost sight of this when criticising/reviewing the movie.
Paddington 2 a safe fun night out for children of all ages, sit back, relax and enjoy the world of marmalade sandwiches and the occasional hard-stare.
This is the best movie of 2018 so far for me. Just an absolute DELIGHT.
It's a good natured, really fun family movie. It has loveable characters, and at its core, it presents a great wholesome message, but one that's also kind of troubling, proposing that even the toughest most hardened criminals are just cuddly deep down, and that prison really isn't all that bad. Is this really a message we want to give to little kids...? It's definitely not deserving of it's perfect rating, but it's a damn fine family movie.
just comfy. I love it.
The bear is cute and the story fun. You definitely know it's mostly made for kids but fine if you have time to kill and want to see a reasonably funny movie.
Makes you feel warm and fuzzy and appreciate being nice
Very boring movie. Totally predictable.
Paddington 2 (which I liked more than what I remember of Paddington 1): The sequel's strong suit is the solid story, brought to life by super actors (Hugh Grant turned in a spot on performance) and stunning special effects.

I feel this film was more heartwarming and sweet than the first. Great cast, great special effects that don't even feel like effects,
