I’ve been generous with my rating, but overall I did enjoy it and the concept of the film, however it could have been done better and the portrayal of the feral step mum was the major let down in the film. It kind of ridiculed the whole film and her behaviour made no sense. Running around with her sunglasses and gun; it didn’t make sense and spoilt it.
But, if you watch it and ignore the contraction of the feral stepmother it’s not a bad film.
More gratuitous violence and less catholic girl home might have helped in making the movie more entertaining. OK to watch but nothing extraordinary. Maybe it would have worked better if I'd have seen the first one (https://trakt.tv/movies/the-woman-2011).
The third part of a trilogy, Darlin' fails to live up to the tall order set up by its predecessor, The Woman (2011).
Now, having not yet seen the first movie - Offspring (2009) - I only have the second film as a point of reference. Greater mythology aside, this was still weak. A strong first, and second act, but it then fizzles out and doesn't stick the landing.
As for the tone: I was hoping for more of what The Woman offered, and it was close, but veered into dark comedy more than I would like. What it holds onto is the same feminist power fantasy, only this time, instead of sinking its teeth into the conservative nuclear family, it is crucifying Christianity - specifically Catholicism. Do you know who's okay with that? This guy.
Where the story suffers is when it has to link back to the Dead River world, by which I mean, Pollyanna McIntosh shows up to remind us that this is still part of a bigger tale. Darlin' really needed to simply be about a young girl who is taken in by an evil Catholic school.
Disjointed, vague at times, heavy handed with its message. I'd still recommend this to horror fans, but only if you like political messages with your gore.
They should of never made another of this horror franchise because it wasn't brilliant but it was worth a watch tho and out of the 3 movies, I prefer the first movie from 2009 offspring because that was half decent and only watched this because of the sake of watching the other too and finishing of the franchise.
Fairly pointless sequel to 'The Woman,' but that isn't to say it isn't worth watching. Combination horror and redemption drama. this is a polished effort that will please fans of the 2011 film.
Mix several thorny issues. However, it loses credibility at times and the resolution is not good.
Uhh, is this meant to be a comedy? The tone is all over the place. It's like 'Terminator 2' where it can be extremely silly with the whole "fish out of water" concept but all of a sudden there's ultraviolence and implied rape. If you haven't seen the prequel 'The Woman' then you won't understand the significance a radio or a gingerbread man cookie has to this feral teenager. Not as satisfying or coherent in its message as the others in this trilogy. Also, what the hell was with that credits song??

This one syncs in right in line after the first two. Nothing special, but nothing bad, and still enjoyable.
