The third iteration of this movie and the plot twist was smartly done. The kids loved it and it's just as endearing as always. McQueen and the team up against new technologu which takens them down an unpaved road. A great family movie with a plethora of great characters.
Surprisingly good for a franchise that has been worn out for a long time. The themes of aging and adapting to new generations and ones lot in life is pretty poignant. It's easily the best of the series to me.
I am so glad that Pixar abandoned the story of Cars 2. This movie picks up where the first movie leaves off and it was such a good decision! This is equally as good as the original Cars and amazingly greater than the failure of Cars 2
Pixar's underdog series returns, and possibly the best in the series yet. Taking a cue from Toy Story 3 with its themes of ageing and growing up, this is a simple yet engaging story that rounds off the trilogy* perfectly.
*I am assuming this is the last Cars movie. While I enjoyed the film, the series doesn't have anywhere elsewhere to go.
I am so glad that we got back to Lightning McQueen in this movie. The last movie was all Mater and while he makes a great, funny best friend/sidekick, he was pretty annoying as the lead. So we get back to what made Cars great in the first thing and now we come full circle with McQueen now facing what the Hudson Hornet faced in his time. There was a message in setting aside all the tech and getting back to real training, to getting your tires dirty. And while I enjoyed the movie, I was a bit disappointed by the ending. I still think McQueen had more in him. But he handles things on his own terms and overall it was an good sequel; good, not great, but still enjoyable.
Creed of the Cars franchise! Utter joy how they took a nostalgic angle with a bunch of critic of the new era of techonology. But even that didn't feel they wanted to pushed down their vision of the audiences' throats. McQueen-Doc Hudson scenes made me cry a bit.
It was great. Even better then the first movie in my opinion.
Lightning McQueen's crash was shocking but goodly done. Flashbacks about Doc Hudson was very emotional. Lightning giving his chance to Cruz came from no where but that made ending amazing!
Amazingly writen!
I agree 'Cars 3' improves upon 'Cars 2', not by much though.
The story for this does feel more rounded than the preceding film, even if it ends rather lamely. The whole production builds up around Lightning McQueen, rightly, before strangely having a conclusion that focuses on newbie Cruz Ramirez. I like the idea of what they were going for, but the way the do it is actually quite poor - it feels too forced, as well as chucking most of the development for McQueen across acts one and two out the window.
With that said, it isn't a massive hindrance. I still had a fun time with this. Owen Wilson remains good as McQueen, while Cristela Alonzo gives an accomplished performance as Ramirez. One thing I do rate about Alonzo is that Disney didn't go down the obvious, lovey-dovey route with her.
None of the rest of the cast standout all that much, though it's cool to hear Kerry Washington as Natalie Certain. Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) is arguably underused, which is weird as he is overused in the 2011 sequel - they don't seem to know how to fit him in ideally.
The overall premise itself is interesting, while the animation remains in top gear. The ending doesn't fit perfectly for me, but I can still recommend that you give this a viewing.
The 3rd Cars movie in the series is fine. Just fine, it will work well if you are trying to get your kids to calm down or just want them distracted for an hour and a half. They are for sure not going to care if the movie is just a repeat of the original.
For the people that do care then yes it is almost a carbon copy (story wise) of the first film. I believe it does a better job at the story but since we've seen this before it isn't as impactful as the first one was. Like most Pixar movies this one is heartfelt but doesn't quite pull it off by the time the movie is over.
There is something you would consider a "twist" in the last 15 minutes of the movie but if you pay attention at all you can see it coming a mile away. I 50/50 on the twist though. Half of me appreciated it but the other half wanted to see it go the "normal" way however it would've been way more boring if it had.
Overall Cars 3 gave the ending to this mediocre series it deserved. Nothing special about it.
Though it's good... It's just Cars all over again. From the "fish out of water" story to the "training" theme. It just feels like a repeat of the previous two films. Though better than the second movie, it failed to reach to the heart that the first gave. Pushing the female lead too hard and forcing the villain of the movie to be way too obvious for the now fan-base the series has accumulated.
Pixar has obviously tried again with this third film in the Cars franchise but didn't nail it where it needed. What it did need, was a better plot, a better set of antagonists, and even a better-refined set of protagonists. It was just, a cliche movie, designed to sell more toys. Pixar couldn't really work with much, as they only seemed to want to make one.
Unlike Toy Story. They didn't have a great story or world to begin with to make another two movies that would turn out as good or better than the original. With non-interesting characters that don't return for the majority or at all throughout the series, it isn't cohesive and falls under because of that.
I'd watch it again happily if the opportunity was given to me by a friend or if I decided to binge all the Pixar movies again. Not a needed addition to the franchise and I don't doubt if we get another because of the introduction of some characters in this movie. But it's not bad either, and it is watchable even by yourself as an adult.
You Are Not Winning This
It just feels repetitive and emotionally poor.
This is fine, definitely better than cars 2. I think I still like the first cars a little more. A satisfying ending for the series.
One of my favorite Disney movies and my favorite of the series. A perfect end to the trilogy as it sums up Lightning McQueen's career and life at Radiator Springs. After overcoming struggles in racing on the international circuit, Lightning McQueen has continued his dominance in the US, but a new foe has risen as younger racers are starting to proof McQueen's age as they are faster. So McQueen has to resort to new training strategies in order to continue to compete at a high level. On his journey he runs across a new character that ties together lose end from the first film and another one that helps complete the whole "motional" theme this film brings to light so well. The plot set up and sequencing was very well done with comical and emotional pieces here and there. There is a huge surprise ending that just closes out the series so well, but still leaving fans wanting to know how McQueen's life continues on.
Cruz Ramirez is cool..
Loved this and my son as well
Makes me feel like I am 6 again when I was watching Cars 1 over and over again till it would drive my mother insane. (pun intended) But not only the nostalgic side of this movie made it great, the story was also a welcome surprise. First I thought it would be a really bland and predictable story about McQueen getting stronger and overcoming his new enemy, but it actually showed McQueen dealing with him aging and becoming old. And the plot twist at the end was also really unexpected, but nice. Overall, a good trip down memory lane.
Vroom! Vroom! Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrttt!!! Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhhh!!! Ppppphhhhffffrrrttttttt!!!! The end
Best thing about cars 3 is the fact it ended this stupid trilogy
good to know white trash exists in the cars universe too
Proper Cars timeline
Cars ---> Cars 3
Now on the home stretch of his career, the tables have turned on racing legend Lightning McQueen: suddenly out-muscled by a sleek, younger generation, he's struggling to keep pace as the wily veteran amid a fleet of impetuous rookies. Much more in-line with the original film, to the point that nothing is mentioned of the wacky sequel, this is a natural, role-reversing progression of the themes presented during the franchise's first lap. It can be blunt and obvious, but at heart this is a kid's movie and I appreciate the effort to mix a little extra meaning into the destruction derbies and Hot Wheel paint jobs.
The whole package looks great, of course, as one might expect from a major Pixar effort. There's tons of variety in the scenery, which is just stunning (the cars themselves occasionally seem glaringly flat by contrast), and the race scenes (particularly McQueen's big crash at the end of the first act) are vivid enough that you'd be forgiven for overlooking the giant eyeballs behind each windscreen.
I wouldn't place it in the pantheon of greats in the studio's past, but it's at least a deserving successor to Cars 1, if not an essential conclusion to that story. They could've just doubled down on Tow Mater and his international slapstick hijinx, raked in the bucks and called it a day, but instead we received something a little more contemplative and deserving of a feature-length. Kudos for that.
The best of the trilogy by a long way. I was actually engaged for the most part.

I'll make it easy for you...
Cars 3 A LOT better than Cars 2, but it can't hold a candle to the original. It's not really worth seeking out unless you're a hardcore fan of the franchise, but if you can catch it on TV or borrow it, I don't think you'll have a bad time watching it.
