Killing Them Softly by Andrew Dominik. Now, despite this only being his third film, I've come to understand that he's got a little bit of recognition in the film scene. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford has been on my watch list for quite some time, and I still haven't seen it (story of my life). But now that I've seen this movie, even though I wouldn't call it phenomenal, it's got me more than interested to check out his previous works. This movie not only serves as a mobster crime story, but is also able to make a lot of statements on America's financial system for anybody paying attention. All of the performances are great, and the characters are consistently well written, but what really brings it home is how uniquely stylised it is, with some really interesting choices in audio editing. Now unfortunately, despite praising the choices made for audio editing, there was at least one moment where I heard some clipping, but overall this is a very well done film. The pacing and conclusion are a little bit unconventional, so try not to get caught up in your expectations for where the story goes, but I found this movie to be very entertaining, and I'm looking forward to checking out his others.
