The way I was vibing with this episode pretty well until that awful ending. I really liked the Connolly family as one off central characters. I thought this episode was highlighting domestic abuse in the early mid century. The way it called on the contradictions of men who claim to have "fought for freedom" but are more invested in exercising power and control over the people in their lives. The scenes were Eddie berated and threatened his family were so visceral upsetting. And in contrast the scenes where the stood up against him so triumphant . As much as I was repelled by the overt british nationalist patriotism weaved through this episode the one thing that did work for me in this regard was the idea that this post-war society was one of change, one of thoes being a woman was able leave her abusive husband without being punished systemically for it.

But that fucking ending is so bad that I can't even appreciate anything the episode had to say before it. Rose telling Tommy to go to his abusive dad and forgive him for... reasons??? It's such a bad ending and so out of left feild I can't even comprehend it. its like Mark Gatiss didn't understand the story he himself wrote. Like how do you flop so monumentally

Beside that the sci-fi elements of the story were alright. I liked the creepy british tv presenter thing The Wire had going on. Plus the faceless bodies with their faces trapped in TV screen was effectively done creepy imagery. I wish the red herring with the police went somewhere more interesting cause the idea that the Met were just collecting faceless people and doing nothing about it for a month was absurd.
