There isn't much Patricia Arquette can do with a character as narratively unstable as hers, but she doesn't convey a real connection to the protagonist either. In the end, it's a weird and generally boring mix of scam, detectives, family instability and art forgery, but it never manages to be so extraordinarily wacky as to be at least funny.
