This movie is a mess. However, it’s a fun mess and encapsulates perfectly the chaos and unpredictability of Harley Quinn and Gotham as a city. It took me a bit to get into this movie but once I did, I had a good time. I think what the movie is weak at is character building - It mostly relies on the acting and the charm of the characters as they are, and that works most of the time but that’s what it ultimately misses in going beyond just an entertaining movie. However, I want to congratulate this movie on such a strong and stylistic showcase of Harley Quinn. From the general vibe, this is great. And I had a good time once the action and the music in the second half kicked in properly. And it empowers women too with Harley’s development in this but also how women are presented here. On the flip side, it’s also obvious that men are portrayed badly here - However, I didn’t mind it as much as, let’s say, Captain Marvel. Because this is a charming movie as it is. And men are not a group that is systematically and socially oppressed or treated inferior, so I can live with men being the bad guys here. And, I enjoyed Black Mask. He was creepy and very threatening, with some disturbing scenes and the scene at the bar, which I found quite scary. The entire cast played their roles well in general but even then, Margot Robbie and Ewan McGregor stood out.
