Wow, I have to admit, I was really expecting this movie to be dumb. From the trailers, I was expecting a movie that introduces Ant-Man, but skips to the second man to wear the mantle, with Hank Pym as an off-the-cuff mention.
I was quite pleasantly surprised. The movie did a more than adequate job of including Hank Pym, the primary alter-ego of Ant Man. He IS the first Ant Man in the MCU, and he IS a primary player in this movie. I honestly never liked the Hank Pym Ant Man. Still, skipping right to Scott Lang, who took on the role 20 years in and only accounts for maybe 10%-20% of the character’s appearances; just seemed wrong.
So my primary concern was addressed. The story was well written, it firmly establishes itself as part of the MCU with a scene at the Avengers Headquarters featuring Falcon (not to mention a big stinger), and overall it was just another great, fun super hero movie in the Mighty Marvel tradition.
