Some say this is a racist and misogynistic episode. Well, obviously they are black. Obviously they look like humans. Obviously they are dressed like an African or an Arabic tribe (well sort of - some say they look like MC Hammer). They are masculine. They are patriarchs. They are proud warriors. They are not comfortable with strong women. They have archaic rituals. That doesn't mean that writers wanted to say that contemporary black humans are like that. That's at least not what I derive from this scenario. I never forget that they are aliens. I never feel writers want to belittle African culture. In TOS the commanding officers represented the patriarchy and TOS's writer were fine with this. In this episode I have no doubt that Starfleet defends women rights and doesn't condone the aliens' been behavior.

The story is mediocre. The fight scene is memorable though. I was entertained. I like that there's some sort of philosophical discussion around the prime directive and moral concerning what there's to win and to loose in the fight. That's not philosophy 401 but better than most TOS episodes.
