I realize that most Americans are stupid but for goodness sake he is a TEACHER! He should have above average intelligence! Meanwhile, what is our main character doing? 1. He shaves AFTER going to the past because, after all, he couldn't shave at home in the 21st century. 2. Buys a car that everyone pays attention to. 3. When he pisses off the local criminals by winning an impossible bet, then instead of returning with money to the 21st century (and reset time) he goes to... motel. 4.Moving to 1960, he takes with him an iPhone (because surely he'll need one?) and a pocket knife a souvenir of the Vietnam War that hasn't happened yet.
And so on and similar idiocies. I wonder if the book original was also an "idiot".
