This is playing to all of Del Toro’s worst instincts. Great visuals, cool score, but completely empty besides that. The acting’s flat out bad and all of the characters are underwritten. Story wise it has nothing going on, conceptually nor emotionally. Seeing robots punch each other is fun for maybe 15 minutes, but that’s not really a movie, it’s a short.
