The tone of the movie is all out of whack and is really what let's it down. It's funny yes, but lacks the punch that Ragnarok gave. When this movie needed to be serious, it didn't have the set-up nor the attention it needed in those scenes to pull it off.
The art direction for the most part is great, just again, those serious scenes could of been done better. The score i feel too deserves more time to let shine. Because while the credits rolled i loved the score there. But they opted for popular rock songs for the moments that mattered.
Christian Bale is amazing as Gor. I don't think I've liked a Marvel villain's difference in acting since this. Sadly I don't think they built his motivation up quite enough to have this be as rewarding as he deserved.
The third act stumbles yes, but the final confrontation is actually done very very well.
I felt like a lot was missing here and I really hope that the supposed 4hr cut did not have the more tonal stability that this version needed and was, in fact, just improvisational comedy.
