The story and characters were interestingly eccentric and it would've been a fun film if it was directed with more flair (some establishing shots, dynamic camera moves, interesting POVs etc.), but unfortunately it was sooooo boringly shot and edited (99% of the film is either a shot/reverse-shot of people talking or a medium two-shot of people talking), like WTF... how could P.T. Anderson have made this mess?!?
P.S. And, ugh, the constant narration trying to glue scenes together... I know that a voice narrating the protagonist's inner voice or circumstances is a neo-noir staple but it was done so lazily and uninterestingly here.
