Shout by Jack Webster

The Outsiders 1983

I thought this was another well shot Coppola, acted well by everyone, no matter how big or small the part was played. However, the tone and pacing is out of proportion here. I felt like I had seen at least three different types of films, made by three different directors. It is visually stunning at times though and the script appears to stay faithful to the novel.

@jakeywest which version did u see? There are two, the original with a moody soundtrack that fits the film and an updated version that was released on blu ray with a rock and roll soundtrack. Still the same film but the r and r soundtrack killed the atmosphere for me.

@lee-brown-barrow It had the rock n roll music, which didn’t help the mood of the film. So it got a point knocked off

@jakeywest the rock and roll music is perfect. Do you know anything about the time period?

@the_argentinian Mid-60’s. The original orchestral score chimes better with the moodiness of this story. It is subtle yet builds up tension, unlike the constant jangle of guitars that offer no delicate sounds to it’s many intimate scenes of companionship and belonging.
