It's a basic episode. We're confronted with a problem and need to find a sollution. There are hickups along the way but we know in the end they'll get through it. I like that Chakotay actually stands up to Janeway at this early point and pushes for his agenda. It is unusual for a first officer to do that. What I never understood was this: they all wear the same uniform but different rank insignia. So with all the talk of this being a Starfleet crew, everyone can always identify woh is Starfleet and who is Marquis. That's not very helpful in the process of trying to unite two crews.
