I am confused by the impulse not only to bring in a flashback, but also make it nonlinear. I don't know if this series really supports that kind of storytelling, particularly if this episode was really only to explain a jar of eyeballs.

If anything I felt like this episode was kind of clunky because it doesn't seem to have the connective tissue of other nonlinear stories that make the jigsaw pieces fall together more easily--which is made only more janky when the show hasn't ever asked that much from its audience before. I don't really feel like this is a bad episode, though. By the end of it I actually felt like it was more compelling than several of the last few episodes, but it sticks out like a sore thumb. I feel as though the only thing I really learned is that I don't really like Marty (and I'm not sure if that's intentional) and that the allusions to Breaking Bad only point out that the ignition of Walter White's jump into the drug world was significantly more relatable.

I kind of just feel like it's goofy. I mean, Del referred to Jurassic Park as "that movie with the dinosaurs." I mean, sure, it was likely a copyright clearance thing, but written into the episode it seems really weird that somebody would remember the word "chaos" from the movie but not the movie title of one of the biggest blockbusters in history lol.
