BlacKkKlansman 2018

The trailer made this look like more of a dramatic comedy when, in fact, it was a straight up drama with a few comedic moments. And I think it's all the stronger of a film because of it. This is some difficult content to portray, especially since so much of what you see portrayed in the 1970s is eerily similar to the rhetoric of the MAGA crowd of today. I had some real difficulty sitting through some of the Klan-centric scenes, and that's exactly how one should feel during them. These were some atrocious people doing hideous things and spewing gross hatred relatively unchecked. John David Washington and Adam Driver gave great performances as the two halves of Ron Stallworth. And as the film closes out by showing the parallels of the Klan in the 70s to the rallies of recent years... I was actually physically bristling with anger and sadness that these types of people still exist (and thrive) today.
