When I heard there was a sequel to Sicario (a film I absolutely adored), I scratched my head. That film didn't seem to need or warrant a sequel in any capacity. Yet, here we are. I will say that for assuming this would be hot garbage, I didn't actually hate it. In fact, I rather enjoyed it. It is a watered down version of the first, almost across the board--lesser dialogue, lacking tension, moderate menace, little nuance--but thanks to Del Toro and Brolin they make it all watchable. With such a high bar set by the first, I'm actually very happy that this got within the realm of quality of its predecessor. Now we just have to wait for them to make the inevitable next film so that they have a true Hollywood trilogy.
