@finfan holy fuck! I spent most of the episode distracted and annoyed by the frequent lens flaring and I was thinking if anyone else was experiencing the same as me when they watched it! I couldn't even properly enjoy the episode because I unconsciously started noticing the lens flaring instead of focusing on dialogue. Overwhelmingly annoying!
And I admit I'm childish enough to have pleasantly chuckled regarding that Spock joke. Undeniably out of character (well, the whole series is out of character, anyway), but illogically funny!
@misnomer agreed, the lens flaring is distracting, it reaches new levels with the last episodes. And it is completely unnatural. You don't experience it in real life.
That "say goodbye" joke is so old and has been done so many times I can't see anything funny in it. You know it's coming the moment Burnham gives the pointer. And if a writer thinks he needs to add something like it it, for me, that's an indicator what is wrong with the show.
I see where you go with "out of character". But TOS did a lot out of character things regarding spock without succumbing to lowest level comedy.

I have given up pointing out what I like or don't like about this show because ultimately it serves no purpose. I have my opinion, others have theirs and that is OK. But does anyone really thing the "Goodbye Spock" joke was funny ?
