@tmrider This explanation/theory goes down the toilet, because zombies were sneaking behind people that were never in gun fights or anywhere where their hearing might be damaged. It is just stupid and lazy writing for more tension moments

Seriously though, they wanted us, the viewers, to hear the grunting way before any bite, so it wasn't supposed to jump scare US. I think it ment to show that they were so busy thinking about the Saviours and revenge, everyone forgot about the zombies as a real threat. Or maybe you're just right.
But, it's a cool show with zombies, axe wielding dad, pet tiger, crazy killer wanna-be monk (who knows what it is) and a sexualized baseball bat, so I'll let it slide.
